We are humbled by the generous contributions of time, money and energy from our Sloan families, teachers, and administrators, that we have received so far this year. With tremendously successful fundraisers under our belts, we are very prepared for our second-half of the year spend on fieldtrips, more assemblies, and our spring family event.  Sloan will have our television debut onFebruary 10th when the WTAE meteorologists & Carnegie Science Center visit us for a weather assembly - more information to come in the January newsletter.  As you start to prepare your 2016 calendars, please be sure to visit the Important Dates section (at the bottom) and include our PTO information on your calendar.  We would love to see you at our next General Assembly meeting on 2/9.   From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and hope that you all have a safe, happy and joyous winter break.  See you next year!

Franklin Regional High School Playschool Program

The Franklin Regional High School Playschool program is now accepting applications for the 2016 session. Playschool is a preschool age play program that is open to any child who is 3, 4, or 5 years old. This program serves as a learning laboratory for the Child Development II students at the high school. It is a wonderful program where preschool-age children and high school students learn from one                                              another.

Our emphasis for the playschool chi
ldren is learning through play. We explore large and small motor skills through a variety of activities such as dancing and making crafts. The children sing, listen to stories, and visit the high school library. This gives children an opportunity to learn language as well as letter and word recognition. We also have a dramatic play center where the children can use their creative imaginations. The children participate in circle time where we dress the weather bear, say the Pledge of Allegiance, count, and learn the days of the week. There are rotating activities for the children to do in circle time daily. We have science and art centers along with the most popular activity, free-play, where students can explore all of the wonderful toys, games and puzzles in our classroom.

Since we believe the best way for preschoolers to learn is through play, we do not use computers or electronic learning games. The students will also go on a field
trip to the Children's Museum in the fall and the Pittsburgh Zoo in the spring. The fall and spring session will both take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:55 -10:30 am. We limit the number of students
for each day, so please sign up early. The spring session begins Tuesday, February 16th. If you need any further information about the program, please contact Sheila
Connolly at 724-327-5456 X5113 or
application can also be found on the FR district web site under the "parent" tab.
