Now its time to get back to learning, activities, routines, and some really great PTO events in the second-half of the year.  Read on.....and stay tuned!

Visit from WTAE Action Weather and Carnegie Science Center

On  Wednesday, February 10th, WTAE Action Weather will make a school visit to Sloan.  A WTAE meteorologist and a Carnegie Science Center representative will present a one-hour weather program including some cool weather experiments for our students.  Students can wear any Franklin Regional or blue and gold clothing that day as well. Sloan Food Drive for the Backpacks to Program

This program i s sponsored by our Franklin Regional School District  community which includes our PTO, teachers, students and their families, and area friends.  The program is coordinated by the school counselors and parent volunteers.

We provide a backpack filled with easy-to-prepare meals and snacks for weekends to our children.   This program was developed in response to ongoing student needs with no weekend access to the school breakfast and/or lunch program.

Each classroom is encouraged to fill a grocery bag  during the food drive to help stock the pantry, which is located at Heritage!   Gift cards to local grocery stores and cash donations will also be helpful.  More information will be coming home with your child in the coming weeks.  Each grade will be assigned specific items to donate.  Please view the flyer here

Franklin Regional High School Playschool Program

The Franklin Regional High School Playschool program is now accepting applications for the 2016 session. Playschool is a preschool age play program that is open to any child who is 3, 4, or 5 years old. This program serves as a learning laboratory for the Child Development II students at the high school. It is a wonderful program where preschool-age children and high school students learn from one another.

Our emphasis for the playschool chi
ldren is learning through play. We explore large and small motor skills through a variety of activities such as dancing and making crafts. The children sing, listen to stories, and visit the high school library. This gives children an opportunity to learn language as well as letter and word recognition. We also have a dramatic play center where the children can use their creative imaginations. The children participate in circle time where we dress the weather bear, say the Pledge of Allegiance, count, and learn the days of the week. There are rotating activities for the children to do in circle time daily. We have science and art centers along with the most popular activity, free-play, where students can explore all of the wonderful toys, games and puzzles in our classroom.

Since we believe the best way for preschoolers to learn is through play, we do not use computers or electronic learning games. The students will also go on a field
trip to the Children's Museum in the fall and the Pittsburgh Zoo in the spring. The fall and spring session will both take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:55 -10:30 am. We limit the number of students for each day, so please sign up early. The spring session begins Tuesday, February 16th. If you need any further information about the program, please contact Sheila Connolly at 724-327-5456 X5113 or sconnolly@franklinregional.k12.pa.us.

The
application can also be found on the FR district web site under the "parent" tab.
