Field Day Changes


Field Day


For safety reasons, the Sloan Staff and Administration are trying a different schedule for Field Day this year.  Field Day will be held on Monday, June 6th.
 
If you are currently scheduled to volunteer, i t is important that the volunteers arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the times listed to allow for check in purposes.

Kindergarten:   9:00 am - 11:30 am
1st grade:         9:00 am - 10:00 am
                        1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
2nd grade:        9:00 am - 10:30 am
                        12:10 pm  - 1:10 pm
3rd grade:         9:50 am - 10:30 am
                        11:15 am  - 1:05 pm
4th grade:         9:00 am - 11:30 am
5th grade:         9:00 am - 11:30 am

Volunteers will be assigned to one of 10 activities created by teachers in their grade levels.  The following grade levels will be together:
  • Kindergarten and First Grade
  • 2nd and 3rd Grade
  • 4th and 5th Grade
Although great effort is being put into scheduling assignments, volunteers may be running a station that their child may visit at another time. The children greatly look forward to Field Day every year, and we are hoping for another fun filled day this year!


Fifth Grade Farewell


If your child is currently in fifth grade, don't forget about the Fifth Grade Farewell Carnival Bash on Tuesday, June 7th from 6:00-9:00 pm. Join us for snacks, games and prizes! As a reminder, please plan on dropping off and picking up  your child - parents should not plan on staying for the event.

We still need  volunteers for setup from  2:30-6:00pm  
(4  people) and cleanup from  9:00-10:00pm  (3 people). Please go to Volunteer Spot to signup:

Book Fair Recap


The Spring Book Fair was an overwhelming success! Thank you to all who volunteered as well as to the kids for purchasing books for their summer reading! 

Student winners for the guessing game were:

A grand total of $9,605.94 in books were purchased, and we received $72.00 in donations for All for Books

The Book Fair would not be possible without all our fabulous volunteers! We had 38 parents who volunteered their time throughout the week. Thank you so much!  The fifth grade students from Ms Gierlach did a fantastic job by helping during clean up at the end of their library time.  We look forward to the Fall Book Fair coming soon!


Field Trips


Did you know that the PTO funds the field trip for every grade each year? The field trip locations are selected and organized by the classroom teachers of each grade. The following field trips were funded this year by the PTO:

Kindergarten:  Pittsburgh Children's Museum, $960

Grade 1: Play in Ligonier followed by lunch at Legion Keener Park, $288

Grade 2 2-  Pittsburgh Symphony at Heinz Hall and two 
in-school Carnegie Museum presentations, $960

Grade 3- Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, $1,030

Grade 4- PNC Park Tour, $714

Grade 5 - Deer Valley Trip, $3,000

We still have a few outstanding committees that need chairs.

Backpacks to Go



FR Backpacks to Go Program had it's last pack of the year on Friday  5/13! We have had an amazing year.  All 5 schools in the district are now participating in BPTG. We are collecting $25 gift cards to Shop and Save or Giant Eagle. We would like to bless the families with a card to use over the summer. We need 20 more to reach our goal of 55! 

If you are able to help, please consider donating a $25 gift card by 6/7. If we have extra, the money will be used to fund the perishable purchases at the beginning of the next school year. Cards may be dropped off in an envelope marked Backpacks To Go, in the PTO Mailbox in the school office.
