Clothing Sale

The Clothing Sale Committee, along with the PTO, would like to thank everyone who purchased clothing items during our fall sale. We made a profit of over $850 for the PTO. It's been great to see everyone all decked out in their blue and gold attire throughout the school.

The PTO would also like to express our gratitude to Brooke Masten & Brenda Conner for the wonderful job they did in coordinating the sale and distributing the items. Thank you!

Project Bundle-Up

Thanks from Sloan PTO to everyone who donated to Project Bundle-Up. We raised a total of $785.00. The money was presented to WTAE at the student's assembly on Wednesday, November 13th. The assembly was a combination of both WTAE and the Carnegie Science Center. The students were so excited to see Mike Harvey, along with the Science Center, and enjoyed learning about various aspects of the weather and being spectators to a few cool experiments. We hope you were able to catch Sloan on the news that evening and that your kids got to see a glimpse of themselves and their friends on television. If not, here is a link to check out.

Lab Ratz

The Lab Ratz after school program was a "positively charged" experience for all! Led by knowledgeable Lab Ratz instructors and assisted by wonderful parent-volunteers, Sloan students learned lessons about such things as polymers, sound waves, and mixtures and participated in experiments ranging from exploding balloons to dissection to DNA extraction. This five-week session was filled nearly to capacity with forty participants, representing all grade levels. By all accounts, it was a success!

The After School Programs co-chairs would like to extend a special thank you to every parent who so generously and patiently volunteered her time to help with this very hands-on, educational program. Your time and assistance is appreciated and recognized. Thank you.

Lab Ratz does not repeat lessons and experiments, so we hope to see new and familiar faces in the New Year. Please look in your child's folder in early 2014 for news and additional information on our next Lab Ratz session.

Carnegie Science Center Assembly

The Carnegie Science Center will be coming to Sloan again on Wednesday, November 27th and presenting their "Space Encounters" assembly. The students will blast off into interplanetary space to experience comets, vacuums, life aboard the International Space Station, and walking on the moon. The assembly has been paid for by the McKenna Grant and will be a great way to start off the Thanksgiving break.

Staff Holiday Luncheon

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but our teachers are so delightful.  Sloan's faculty and staff warm our hearts with their dedication to our children, now's the time to return the favor.  Our annual Holiday Staff Luncheon is December 4. Our Hospitality Committee will be looking for volunteers and food donations soon.  Keep your eyes open for a flyer in your child's backpack, or email Jeanine Snyder at jpjsnyder@hotmail.com or Joanne McClelland at jdmcclelland905@yahoo.com for more details.

Holiday Shop

Sloan Elementary PTO will be holding its annual Holiday Shop from Monday, December 9 through Thursday, December 12. The children love to shop for their friends and family from a wide assortment of gifts ranging in price from $0.50 to $8.00.

In order to make this event a success, we are in need of volunteers with Level 1 Clearances to donate their time. Help is needed beginning at 9 a.m. for set-up on Friday, December 6 until it is finished, Monday through Thursday during teacher-designated time slots, (http://sloanpto.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Holiday-Shop-FLYER-1.pdf) and Friday, December 13 at 9 a.m. for clean-up. We would love to have your help! To volunteer, please contact your Holiday Shop Co-Chairs: Heidi Groth (412-956-9413 - hgroth4@hotmail.com) and Megan Ciaramitaro (724-387-2100 - ciaramitaro@gmail.com).

Thank you!

Please consider visiting Hoss's anytime on Saturday, December 14th, and Hoss's will donate 20% of your total check to the PTO. A voucher will be sent home with each student and also made available for downloading on our website at: http://sloanpto.com/forms/.
