Dance-a-Thon Wrap Up

Congratulations Sloan families on exceeding our goal of fundraising $16,000, by raising $16,265.58!!!  It was an exciting day for all - the music was rockin' and the kids were whippin'. Thank you teachers, students, parents and administration & staff for your support and generosity.  We had 170 students pledge $50 or more to earn a T-Shirt - WAY TO GO!!
This event would never be possible without the heart and soul of the DAT Committee Chairs Marlo Ayres and Elaine Yarabinetz, the PTO Board, and all of our volunteers.  Your dedication helped us exceed our goal which will enable the PTO to continue to support the wonderful educational activities for our students, such as the assemblies and field trips.  Additionally, we had 25 incredible prize baskets to give away, all donated by awesome parents and/or businesses around the community.  Other than our remaining traditional fundraisers (holiday shop, book fair, spirit sales, box tops) we are DONE fundraising for the year!  We can sit back, relax and enjoy the wonderful events we have planned for the remainder of the year (check out the Important Dates section at the end).

Backpacks to Go Program

This program is sponsored by our Franklin Regional community which includes our PTO, teachers, students and their families, and area friends.  The program is coordinated by school counselors.  We will provide a backpack filled with easy-to-prepare meals and snacks for weekends to our children.  This program was developed in response to ongoing student needs with no weekend access to the school breakfast and/or lunch program.
Here's how the program works:  Children enrolled in the program, by parent request, will take home a backpack with nutritious food in a safe, easy and discreet manner on the designated Fridays.  The food items and included menu suggestions may be used for breakfast, lunch and dinner for Saturday and Sunday.  Some of the child-friendly foods may include: peanut butter and jelly, easy-open canned fruit, applesauce, pudding, cereal, granola bars, bread, macaroni and cheese, soup, fruit snacks, Pop tarts, instant oatmeal, and canned pasta.

The students will return the backpacks on Monday morning to be re-filled for the next designated Friday.  We will be offering the "Backpacks-to-Go" on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month with adjustments made for holidays.  By meeting basic needs of our children, we hope each child will be better able to focus on learning.

To enroll your child in the program at any time, please contact Mrs. Burns at 724-327-5464 x3002 or Ms. Wurzell at 724-327-5464 x3244.
