Don't Just Stand There, Bust a Move!

Last Friday's Dance-A-Thon (DAT) pledge collection brought in $800+ in cash donations and almost $1600 in on-line pledges.  As students submit their pledges, they will receive their participation goody bag.

Before you TWIST AND SHOUT, never fear, we have five more collection dates for you to PUMP UP THE VOLUME towards our goal of raising $16,000 in our primary fundraiser, while the students have fun with fitness and dancing.  On the morning of 10/23, and every morning from 10/26-10/29,  students can submit their pledges on the way to their homeroom - we will be collecting at the top of both ramps .  OR you can visit    http://sloanpto.mydagsite.com/  to donate on-line.

We have some really wonderful baskets that have been donated by our generous local businesses and parents for our Chinese Auction.  They include: Chuck E Cheese, Steeler, Fun at Home, FR Clothing, Campfire Fun, Pokemon, Shopkins, Science Fun, Creative Arts, Imaginarium Creations, Beados, Lego Friends, and so much more!    The more you pledge, the more chances you have to win -- every $25 pledged, earns 5 raffle tickets.   Students who raise $50 or more earn a DAT T-shirt  (please refer to your DAT Parent Info Letter for exact details which can be found electronically at  http://sloanpto.com/fundraising-2/dance-a-thon-2/)

On  10/30 we will be DANCING IN THE STREETS......well, not exactly, we will be dancing in the gym, but you get the picture.  Thank you for your support!

Backpacks to Go Program

This program is sponsored by our Franklin Regional community which includes our PTO, teachers, students and their families, and area friends.  The program is coordinated by school counselors.  We will provide a backpack filled with easy-to-prepare meals and snacks for weekends to our children.  This program was developed in response to ongoing student needs with no weekend access to the school breakfast and/or lunch program.

Here's how the program works:  Children enrolled in the program, by parent request, will take home a backpack with nutritious food in a safe, easy and discreet manner on the designated Fridays.  The food items and included menu suggestions may be used for breakfast, lunch and dinner for Saturday and Sunday.  Some of the child-friendly foods may include: peanut butter and jelly, easy-open canned fruit, applesauce, pudding, cereal, granola bars, bread, macaroni and cheese, soup, fruit snacks, poptarts, instant oatmeal, and canned pasta.

The students will return the backpacks on Monday morning to be re-filled for the next designated Friday.  We will be offering the "Backpacks-to-Go" on the 2ndand 4th Fridays of each month with adjustments made for holidays.  By meeting basic needs of our children, we hope each child will be better able to focus on learning.

To enroll your child in the program at any time, please contact Mrs. Burns at 724-327-5464 x3002 or Ms. Wurzell at 724-327-5464 x3244.

Birthday Books

Will your child be celebrating a birthday in  October?  One unique way to commemorate your student's special day is with a Birthday Book from Sloan Library!  For just a $6.00 donation toward the book's cost, your child can choose from our new book section on the Birthday Book Shelf AND be the very first one to check it out!

Your child's selected book will include a personalized dedication plaque, and a picture of him/her holding the book will go up on Sloan's Birthday Wall outside the Library. For a Birthday Book Form and additional information, please click  here, or visit the Library Resources section of Sloan's webpage.
