PTO Meeting Reminder

The second General Assembly Meeting of the year was held last Wednesday, November 13at 9:30 AM in the LGI. It was attended by President Jennifer Taylor, Vice President Pam Rowell, Secretary Debby Rhea, Treasurer Nancy Golembiewski, Principal Tina Burns, Assistant Superintendent Mary Catherine Reljac, and 11 PTO Members.

Minutesfrom the September 13 meeting were approved unanimously, and Megan Ciaramitaro was appointed by the Board to fill the Co-Secretary vacancy.

Pam Rowell gave the Vice President's report, highlighting recent and upcoming PTO assemblies. Treasurer Nancy Golembiewski presented copies of the Year to Date Budget and reviewed income from recent fundraisers, which was followed by a general discussion about future fundraising ideas including a Zumbathon, Bingo Night, and opportunities to raise money at Hoss's, Chuck E Cheese, and Five Below.   President Jennifer Taylor discussed this year's budget as it relates to teacher grant funding.

Board Members and Committee Chairs in attendance gave recaps of recent events including Fall Family Movie and Fun Night, Excess for Recess, After School Programs, Wear a Hat for Cancer Day, and the Project Bundle-Up donation drive. Upcoming events (Staff Holiday Luncheon, Holiday Shop, Mrs. Hartman's Student Art Show, the Talent Show, and the opening of the new PTO-funded basketball court) were also highlighted.

The meeting culminated with special guest speaker Assistant Superintendent Mary Catherine Reljac. Mrs. Reljac shared her educational and work history with those present, discussed her multi-faceted job responsibilities within our district, and shared the district goals she and Dr. Piraino are focusing on. She also discussed the new standard for assessing school districts' effectiveness - the School Performance Profile.

It is all fun and games until...

We run out of playground chalk...  again.  As you may know, the PTO designates a budget to provide playground essentials for the children to use at recess.  So far this year, we are pretty much out of moolah and the playground is still in desperate need.  Soooo....  we are starting a kind of Excess for Recess for OUTDOOR recess.  The playground could use sidewalk chalk, softer balls (nerf, grocery store balls, playground balls, foam balls, kickballs, etc), sidewalk chalk, rope jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, skip-its, sidewalk chalk, frisbees, etc.  If you have these items sitting around, or stumble on a great deal in your holiday shopping, all donations are welcome and appreciated.  You can place your items in  the Excess for Recess bin just inside the front doors of the school.  THANK YOU!

Excess for Recess

We are always amazed at the generosity of our Sloan Families.

Thank you to all of the donations we received for Excess for Recess.  We had many books, games puzzles and crafts for the staff to choose from.  Also a big thank you to Half Price Books who donated 5 boxes of books.
