QuickBooks - "I didn't know it could do this!"
Working with clients everyday I get a lot of feedback on QuickBooks.  One of the most popular things I hear when I am showing a client how to do something is "I didn't know QuickBooks could do this!"  Here's a couple features available in QuickBooks you may not know about...
1. Classes - Classes can be used so that you can separate product or service lines of your business and see which areas of the business are profitable or need improvement.  You can easily change your preferences to start using class tracking.  On every sale or expense transaction (checks, bills, etc) you will now have a class field where you can select the appropriate class.  Examples of classes could be: New home construction & remodeling for a construction company; properties or locations; grain and livestock for a farmer.
2. Billable expenses, time and items:  You may have noticed when you are entering bills, credit card charges, or checks there is a "billable" field with a check mark next to the "customer name" field.  If you purchase materials, pay postage, or have mileage expense directly related to one customer you can select the billable box when you enter the purchasing transaction and the customer's name.  Then when you go to create an invoice for that customer QuickBooks will show you all of the "billable" items for that customer and you can select them and they flow directly to the invoice.  This can be a huge time saver and help your bottom line by ensuring you don't forget to bill your clients for those purchases.
Stay tuned to the next newsletter for additional features you may not know about.
