Sassy Stitches!

I had the honor of speaking to our local quilt guild this week. I shared a little bit about my quilting journey and also brought three quilts that meant a lot to me.  I shared my first quilt, which is so far from perfect (so don't zoom in!), but started my passion for quilts. I then shared a quilt that was made from my sweet aunts' school dresses. My dad has 5 sisters and these women all loved me even before I was born. Only one of them married and she is now widowed. Two have passed away. It was like having 5 bonus grandmothers! They have always been a special part of my life.  And last but not least, I shared my quilt, "All Paths Lead Home." After a devastating house fire 2 1/2 years ago, this was the first quilt I pulled out of a bag of quilts that the cleaning company had packed up. Quite a sweet coincidence, don't you think?  Many thanks to Smoky Mountain Quilters Guild of Western North Carolina for the invite.  Here is a link to their website.

Remember we are providing opportunities for you to come work on your club projects during the "Sit & Sew"
times this year or if you're not in a club, just come sew!  We are changing this a little bit after some customer feedback.  Regardless of whether you want to do some handwork or sew on your machine, come on either of the two "Sit & Sew" days provided each month and SEW!!! These days have been set aside for you to use our classroom and the supplies while you fellowship with others and work towards completing projects.   BUT . . . YOU MUST RESERVE A SPOT.  We are limiting the number of people to 10 on each of the sewing days so if you are interested you need to call and reserve your spot.  It's totally free!  But we only have room for so many so let us know you're coming and we will let you know if there is still room. You can get into the classroom at 9:45 and sew until 4:00!  WOW!  Staff can answer questions and help you briefly but they will be working on the floor taking care of other business. This is not class time so please be respectful of our staff members. You can order lunch or bring your own. Come sew with us!   Did I mention it's FREE ?!?!?

Deb has let us know that there are only 6 spots remaining for the first annual Great Grid's Event to be held April 28 & 29, 2017.  Whether you are new to Creative Grids, need a
refresher, or just want 2 uninterrupted days to stitch on a great grids project, this is the event                                       for you.

Sassy Stitches will be happy to help you select fabrics and gather the Creative Grids tools you need to get ready for the event.  We will also be having a special sale just for attendees beginning with special hours on Friday night, April 28  and lasting through the end of closing on Saturday. We can't wait to see you all!

Have a wonderful week and come see us!

Remembering Robin
Several customers and all of our staff suffered a tremendous loss when our friend Robin Coggins passed away a little more than two years ago. And of course her family was so very devastated when they lost their mother and wife. Robin was full of life and brought much laughter and joy to all. Robin purchased the top of the line sewing and embroidery machine in June before she passed away in November. The machine is like brand new. She had a wealth of other sewing supplies that any quilter would be thrilled to own. No one in her family sews and they are ready to sell Robin's sewing supplies and have some very nice items for sale.  Here is a list of what is available.
*Like new, top of the line sewing and embroidery machine with iPad
*20th Anniversary Grace Company Quilting Frame w/ machine already attached
*85 Embroidery CD's - Most are Anita Goodesign
*110 Spools of Embroidery Thread
*25 Quilt Books
*Singer Serger
*Over 100 Yards of Quilting Fabric
*17 Rulers/Tools with Stand
Here are some of some of the items:

The total value of all of these items is much more than what the family is asking. Their price for everything listed is $11,000. This includes 2 sewing machines and a serger!  Here are phone numbers where you can reach family members if you have questions or would like to arrange a time to go see these items.

NEW CLUB for 2017!
Sassy Strippers!
There are still spots available in our "Sassy Strippers" club so we are extending the sign-up until the next meeting on Tuesday, February 14th. The " Sassy Strippers " will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from January through June and the goal is to complete three quilt tops. Here are two pictures of the first quilt using different fabrics.  It's gorgeous!

Time:  10:00 - 1:00
Class Fee:  $30 plus purchase of Strip Delight book
Show & Tell
This is Monica's Farm Girl Vintage Quilt.  Awesome!

Lindi made this cute quilt using a book panel we just got in.  Just goes to show you that you don't have to make a book JUST because it's a book panel.

This is Sharon's beautiful "I Love America" quilt using the same pattern Monica used to make her quilt below.

Dawn made this gorgeous mini quilt using the Mini Pineapple Trim Tool.  I don't have the measurements as I'm writing the newsletter but the quilt is sitting in an office chair. The picture doesn't do it justice!
Cindy made this cute baby quilt from a panel and a few borders.  SO sweet.
Ryan's Case for Smiles
Our charity focus at Sassy Stitches is Ryan's Case for Smiles. This is an organization that provides fun pillowcases for sick children .  ALL of our donations will be used in Asheville, NC at Mission Children's Hospital. I volunteered for this charity for several years and have personally delivered pillow cases to kids at Mission Children's Hospital and assure you it brings great joy to sick children to pick out a fun pillowcase. When you read the story about Cindy and her son, Ryan, you will understand what a great cause this is. It's the perfect charity for anyone who sews! Here is a link to the organization's website.
We will accept pillowcases, fabric donations for making pillow cases and monetary donations. If you choose to make pillowcases, there are tips on the website (see link above) about making them. The volunteers who take the pillowcases wash them before delivery. Something so simple as a fun pillowcase really does bring a smile to a sick child.  THANKS!
