Congratulations to the winners of our extra hour in the paddling tank!
Last month we announced a free hour in the Carol Love Rowing/Paddling Tank was up for grabs to the first team to have 20 paddlers registered online at ptbodragonboat.ca. A big Dragon roar goes out to the “Lovin’ Our Boobies” team, who have won the coveted practice time in the tank along with instruction from one of the experienced Survivors Abreast coaches. Paddles up!

If you haven’t had a chance to register your team or participants yet, make your way to ptbodragonboat.ca to get dibs on available practice time slots!

Team Spotlight: The RBC Queen Bees, 2016’s Inaugural Dragon’s Lair Winners
Q&A with team captain Patti Perry

Q: Tell us about the RBC Queen Bees – are you long-time participants?
A: We have some team members who have been around from the beginning. RBC has participated in the event every year but one.

Q: What motivated you to participate?
A: The number of colleagues I have had over the years who have been affected by breast cancer. Two years ago at our practice night, as we were paddling back to the wharf, a friend and colleague who is a survivor stopped us and gave a heartfelt speech about what it meant to her that we supported this event. It was that moment that I told myself I would continue to lead this team as long as I am able.

Q: What did it mean to your team to win the first-ever Dragon’s Lair in 2016?
A: Being in the Dragon’s Lair allowed us to spend the day together with not only teammates but with the family and friends who came to support. It was a real honour to be in the comfort of the Lair.

Q: Did you add any special fundraising challenges to boost your chances of winning?
A: Our team’s excitement and enthusiasm over the last few days before the event was certainly something to be proud of. The communications between the team members challenged everyone to push just a little harder. It was a race to the finish and our biggest supporter, RBC Foundation, pushed us over the top.

Q: Will the Queen Bees compete for the Lair again this year?
A: Absolutely – our goal is to rename the Lair to “The Bee Hive”!
