On June 29th, you should have received the below e-mail from me.

The Smithsonian issued a press release today announcing the CD and highlighting the United Macedonian Diaspora's role in making this project happen! The press release says:

"The album was produced by Martin Koenig. Research was supported by Margaret Mead and the Institute for Intercultural Studies and the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research. Production was supported by the International Music and Art Foundation; 4Culture; and the United Macedonian Diaspora through their efforts with the global Macedonian community, particularly in the United States and Canada; and by other lovers of Macedonian music and dance."

I am excited to share with you that the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings will release the first-ever "Music of Macedonia, Playing 'Til Your Soul Comes Out" CD on August 28, 2015!

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) was able to raise over a third for this project, of which a large portion came from UMD's partner, the International Music and Art Foundation (IMAF). IMAF provided a matching grant for the project, which sparked lovers of Macedonian music to support this important CD even more. IMAF has supported numerous UMD-supported cultural projects in the past, and we are forever grateful.

The entire project, a partnership between Balkan Echoes and the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, cost $90,000.

All donors who gave $250 and more to the project last year (as promised) will be getting their own CD in the mail.

This CD will be an excellent tool to advance the public knowledge of what Macedonia is all about, especially its rich cultural heritage, traditional folk dancing, and music.

Balkan Echoes and UMD are planning the following CD launch events:

October 7, 2015 - Washington, D.C.

October 9, 2015 - New York City

October 10, 2015 - New Jersey

October 23, 2015 - Seattle

TBD - Toronto

Please contact me at vnajdovska@umdiaspora.org for details.

UMD has several projects in the works to promote Macedonia's rich cultural heritage in the future, including sponsorship of the 9th Macedonian-North American Conference on Macedonian Studies at the University of Chicago on November 12-14, 2015.

Your support of UMD is critical so that we can carry on this important promotion of Macedonian music. If you become a member, renew your membership, or make a donation of $50 or more today, UMD will send you a complimentary advance copy of the CD.

Help us spread Macedonian culture beyond the Macedonian community - DONATE to UMD today.

Your support will get you a copy of "Music of Macedonia, Playing 'Til Your Soul Comes Out" CD for a limited time only.

Thank you for your generous support of this important project!

With gratitude,
