Snow Rage

If you are like me, you are experiencing the snow of the century on the East coast. We have the powdery white stuff coming down faster than I can keep a path shoveled. I am reading stories about how people are experiencing "snow rage" and that thousands are without power, some are being forced to cook their food in fireplaces, people are getting into fights over food in stores, even a man put a gun to a snow plow driver's head.  C'mon, really? We are Americans. Let's behave like Americans. We don't get sidetracked by snow. We don't treat our neighbor viciously. We are rugged individualists who treat others as we hope to be treated. We should be banding together, not fighting one another.

I saw an interview with the Mayor of Washington, D.C. He appears like someone with no common sense. I don't know how he got elected in the first place. But he was telling how there was an emergency snow procedure in effect and that everybody should move their cars if they are on an affected route or it would be expensive. Expensive for sure--some $400 to tow and get your car out of hawk. Now that's government serving the people! It just adds to the frustration. In times of emergency, government is supposed to ensure the safety and order of the people. Yes, cars need to be towed out of the way, but it shouldn't be a cold-hearted money maker for the government and their crony tow companies.

Right now, we have about 15 inches of snow and it is still coming down at a fast pace. A little later, I will be out checking on things. Seeing if neighbors need any help. I also will be calling some people who I know are stuck in this storm to see if they are OK and offer any encouragement I can. These kinds of snowstorms or natural disasters are opportunities for Christians to show the love of Christ, one to another. That person you give a warm smile, or an extra push out of a slick spot, or a hot cup of coffee, may be someone who is seeking, or needs a little boost from a good American. We shouldn't be fighting one another for food or grouchy about the condition we are in.

My wife asked me to shovel a path to the bird feeder. And I was thinking about what Jesus said in Matthew 6:25, "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than they?"  Don't fear during this time, as the Lord is with you. In verses 22-23, He said, "The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness." So, today whether you are affected by the storm or not, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Rage on satan today, not your neighbor.
