Hike NS Enews: January 2017
Learn about 50 plus snowshoe/hiking events as well as where to find snowshoes, another Field Leader-Hiking Winter course and how you can influence the NS budget with hiking in mind.
Hike Nova Scotia and 33 host organizations across the province are offering the 2017 Winter Guided Snowshoe Hike Series from January to March. There are over 50 hikes led by local folks and participants qualify to win "trail prizes." Hike NS thanks its partners for organizing the hikes on the ground as well as NS Trails and the NS Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage for their support.

NS Budget Consultations: Hiking Wish List
The Nova Scotia government is asking for Nova Scotians' input on the 2017-18 budget. Find more information in the news releaseand on the Budget page. The deadline to provide feedback is January 16, 2017. Consider making a submission yourself about the value of hiking and trails. Click here to view some things Hike NS cares about.
Combined Field Leader - Hike & Winter Course
There will be an Outdoor Council of Canada combined Hike and Winter Field Leader course hosted by Chester Recreation at Forest Heights Community School in Chester Basin NS. This course combines two certifications over 2.5 days from Friday, February 10 to Sunday February 11. Learn more and register here.
Beaver Mountain Provincial Park located in James River, Antigonish County in the Northumberland Shore region. The park has a small picnic area with beautiful views of Antigonish and Cape Breton Island, as well as a well-marked trail system. The 6-km trail system offers everything from leisurely paved walkways to fairly challenging unpaved hills - great for cross country skiing, snow-shoeing, wildlife observation or long hikes or quiet walks in the woods.Read the full posting here and find a map here.
