Exciting news to share with our friends and supporters! Snyder's-Lance announced yesterday that the Lance Foundation is awarding a total of $1.5 million to 13 area nonprofits, including Communities In Schools of Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Thirteen nonprofits were ultimately selected after a comprehensive application and review process of nearly 100 local organizations.
Communities In Schools will use the funds to purchase an additional vehicle for transporting students to and from activities, events, after-school programming, as well as medical and dental appointments. The grant will also support the related operational and maintenance costs of the CIS vehicles.
"We are, of course, thrilled to be among those organizations selected to benefit from this significant gift," said Molly Shaw, CIS-Charlotte Executive Director, "and the timing of the grant was fortuitous as well. This past year, we served nearly 1,300 more students than the previous year, and it became abundantly clear that another vehicle was needed in order to accommodate staff requests for student transportation. This additional van will definitely get lots of use in serving our students!"
Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, Snyder's-Lance has a long history of supporting a variety of causes and organizations in both the Charlotte community and those communities where the company has operations. The Lance Foundation is awarding the grants in honor of the company's upcoming 100-year anniversary of the Lance brand in 2013.
