Player Pathway

The Canadian Soccer Association (Canada Soccer) recently released the new Canada Soccer Pathway, providing a roadmap for players of all ages and aspirations who want to play soccer at the recreation, competitive or high performance (EXCEL) levels, with the aim of encouraging lifelong participation. In support of this pathway, Canada Soccer has also released more detailed information on the Men's and Women's EXCEL Streams in the form of guides for players and their parents.

The Men's EXCEL stream is a new approach by Canada Soccer to unite and strengthen the ways that the most promising young athletes from across Canada are identified and developed to help drive elite men's soccer forward.

As part of the Canada Soccer Pathway, the Women's EXCEL Program is designed to ensure more of Canada's exceptional young female players find their way into the best competitive environments, so that our Women's National Team is provided with a steady stream of players meeting high standards to keep us competitive on the world stage.

These new approaches to soccer in Canada represent a significant change to past practices. As such, it is important to understand their impacts on soccer in Saskatchewan and alignment to the SSA stream-based model. Dave Nutt, Director of Soccer Operations, will be presenting on the Canada Soccer Pathway and it's alignment to the SSA stream-based model as a part of the upcoming Member Consultation.

The High-Performance Development Centre (HPDC) completed its second year of full-time operation in July, 2014. The program began five years ago as the Regional Training Centre and then the National Development Centre. In that period of time 100% of the participating athletes have graduated to College or University programs. The HPDC program also prepares athletes for National Team opportunities and/or Semi/Professional Club play...

All coaches who have yet to obtain their RiS Certification must achieve it prior to participating in their first team event. The RiS Training Course is available at no cost online at http://www.sasksport.sk.ca/RiS/

Congratulations go out to the nearly 2000 coaches who already have completed their RiS Certification at this time!

GoalLine and Risk Management Update

Implementation of GoalLine Province Wide

The SSA now has thmajority of Regular Members and a number of Associates using GoalLine.

In 2015 our goal will be to engage all remaining Member Organizations to utilize GoalLine for all registration so that we can reach our goal of 100% participation by Outdoor 2016.

Nicole Knecht will be contacting those who have not yet initiated to begin your implementation strategy in the near future; if you would like more information or to attend a GoalLine webinar please contact [email protected].

Risk Management

Saskatchewan Soccer plays an important oversight role providing guidance to all Member Organizations to develop Risk Management and best practices in soccer administration.  Aside from registration, GoalLine plays an important role by taking the pressure off Member Organization volunteers and staff in a number of key Risk Management and administrative areas including:

  • Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
  • Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability requirements
  • Tracking of required standards including Volunteer Screening and Police Record Checks
  • Tracking of Respect in Sport  and coaching and referee certifications
  • Security of confidential and personal information
  • Issuing of receipts and Child Fitness Tax receipts

In June the SSA sent out express consent requests to 500 Member Organization and SSA key contacts. Our response rate is currently at 2.8%.  We would appreciate your support to provide express consent so that we can establish compliance with CASL.
