Emojis The Language of The Future?
Emojis are those tiny little graphics that you can send in a text message that captures an emotion in an image rather than text. They are making a big splash in the social media world. You can use them in Instagram, they are hashtag-friendly and now branded emojis are on Twitter. What will they think of next? Hint: Look at the Facebook section below.
The next newsletter scheduled for Monday Oct. 5th will be delayed by one week. I will be attending the Constant Contact One Con Conference in Las Vegas! Follow along on Instagram with #OnTheGoWithJO and we will connect again on Oct. 12th!
1.) Last week Facebook hosted a
Q&A Town Hall meeting with founder Mark
Zuckerberg. You probably heard the major announcement as the media widely broadcast that "Facebook is building an 'unlike' button".
Facebook is NOT creating an unlike button. However they are working on an empathy button to express emotion. This would be used when you want to acknowledge a post in some way other than giving it a thumbs up. TechCrunch speculated that it may be an emoji.
New Sections for Pages depending on your business or service.
Improved Layout with Tabs for each new page section that you add.
3.) Facebook is releasing a new video advertising option that includes 100% In-View Impressions. Currently Facebook has an option if the advertisement is served, but not viewed completely. This new ad option means a business would pay for the ad to be viewed from beginning to end.
4.) In order to release this new ad, Facebook has teamed up with Moat, a third party advertising analytic company that will help build analytics and measuring capabilities surrounding the new 100% In-View Impressions Ads.
5.) Facebook made Mentions and Live available to Journalists with verified profiles. Now Journalists can report live from the scene, follow what others are saying surrounding breaking news, post publicly and share news. This feature previously existed for celebrities, athletes and professionals with a large fan base.
1.) Facebook and Instagram created
Signal, a discovery and creation tool which helps Journalists and News Broadcasters monitor trending topics on both Facebook and Instagram.
Signal also gives them the ability to take the content and embed it directly into their websites or television streams.
1.) Branded emojis have landed on Twitter. In the past, Twitter has created specific emojis (also called hashflags) for events like New York Fashion Week. Now brands can jump on board. If you tweet #ShareACoke on Twitter, an emoji of two coke glasses clinking will appear after the hashtag. Speculation is this will be an advertising option in the near future as well.
2.) Twitter has teamed up with Square to make it easy for Twitter users to donate and support political candidates directly through the Twitter interface. Click to learn more about "$Cashtags".
LinkedIn has introduced
Next Wave, it's first list and a new quarterly series that celebrates
"professionals and companies that are doing extraordinary work and transforming their fields."
1.) This past week Pinterest hit a major milestone with
100 Million Monthly Active Users. This means 100 Million people are using Pinterest on a monthly basis.
2.)
Pinning on your iPhone or iPad just became easier (with the latest) update. Now it is effortless to search pins and link straight to Pinterest when you are using other applications on your phone. For those with the new iPhone, Pinterest is now compatible with 3D Touch as well.
1.) Snapchat has introduced
Lenses in selfie mode. If you want to activate the lens feature, hold down on your face when taking a selfie and lens options will appear below the image.
2.) U.S. Snapchat users now can
purchase additional replays. Prior to this they were allowed only one replay per day. Replays start at
3 for $0.99.
Periscope released two new viewing features this week.
2.) Periscope profiles and recent broadcasts can now be
viewed on the web. Prior to this updates profiles were only viewed in the app or viewers could watch broadcasts in their web browser through Tweets.
