SIW Quote of the Week

"When we include people who are on the margins of our community it strengthens the moral fabric of our community as a whole."

 22 November 2014
Social Inclusion Week
22- 30 November, 2014

Social Inclusion Week officially kicks off today with a line up of fantastic events running Nationwide. Newspaper Media is running hot with stories of local grass roots events, and nationally 130 Radio Stations have picked up our Audio News Release featuring SIW Founder, Jonathon Welch calling all Australians to attend local events and put on their own events. Click here for media release.

Byron Community Centre in NSW have a Gratitude Tree where people can express their gratitude for someone in the community by creating a heartfelt acknowledgement which will be attached to the beautiful fig tree opposite Fundies on Jonson St. This will be on display all week and we can't wait to see the photos!

In Melbourne, Victoria the Summer Foundation, who address the issue of young people with a disability living in nursing homes, have a Short Film, 'Social Inclusion - From the Outside Looking In'. Seven Summer Foundation Ambassadors each of whom have a direct and personal link to the issue of young people in nursing homes, talk about their personal experience of social inclusion in this film, which is screening all week on the Big Screen at Federation Square.

And in Bundaberg Queensland, the community have spent several weeks colouring in and gathering paper dolls and Bundaberg Regional Council have 3 events planned to put these dolls together in an attempt to break the Paper Doll Chain World Record. The record currently stands at 6.59 km - Bundaberg folk are aiming for theirs to be 8 - 10 km... now that will be difficult to photograph!

Speaking of photography... be sure to take lots of photos at your event and enter them in to our photo competition. Click here for details.

Below is listed the events for the first three days, we hope you can get along to one in your community. Keep an eye out on Monday for a list of the following three days. Remember, it's not too late to register your own event. Head to or check out SIW on Facebook and Twitter. Join the conversation online using the hashtag #SIW14.
