Social Inclusion Week
22- 30 November, 2014

Our national community was deeply saddened today at the news of the passing of Australian Test Cricketer, Phil Hughes. He embodied a vision of the future of his sport and inspired many thousands of Australians to engage in this national sport. It is a shock, an unprecedented occurrence and one that leaves many distressed and concerned. We share this loss and extend our condolences to his family and to his community of friends.

Just a few days earlier this week, Cricket Australia had made a major announcement, and we felt that we should share this with you.

On Tuesday morning Cricket Australia announced their 'National Community Engagement Framework', and Social Inclusion Week Ambassador, Adam Gilchrist and Lisa Sthalaker, former Captain of the Australian Women's Cricket team, launched a range of major social inclusion initiatives which they believe will re-energise the sport across the country. This Framework reinforces Cricket Australia's goal to give every person in Australia, irrespective of gender, background, age, ability, or sexuality the opportunity to be involved in the great game from the grassroots to high performance.

Over these final three days of SIW there are over 50 events happening around the country including many weekend festivals and fun days. And yes, you can still register your event. Head to socialinclusionweek.com.au or check out SIW on Facebook and Twitter. Join the conversation online using the hashtag #SIW14. And of course feel free to contact us at socialinclusionweek@gmail.com.
