Child Care Provider Appreciation Day
May 11th

Take a moment to say
Thank You!

In May, there are two special days to celebrate the wonderful, skilled individuals who educate and care for young children. These are days to say a special thank you to family and group family child care providers, teachers and directors in child care centers, and school age staff for the love they bring to their jobs every day. Children thrive under their care and teaching.

#3 What Parents Need to Know About Social Media and Anxiety
Learn to recognize the warning signs of anxiety disorder and help your kid keep social media use healthy and productive.   By Caroline Knorr
What Parents Need to Know About Social Media and Anxiety
From cyberbullying to FOMO to cruel comments, social media can be a land mine for kids. Issues we parents never had to worry about, such as an intimate photo texted to the entire school or Instagram videos of a birthday party we weren't invited to, are now a risk for many tweens and teens. With kids' digital well-being a concern, researchers are exploring potential links between social media and  the rise in teen suicide ratestech addiction, and  loss of real-life social skills. And many parents are wondering: Is social media causing my kid to have anxiety?

Real Life Challenges of getting child care

"I thought I was supposed to be so joyful. I had a healthy, beautiful, wonderful baby, but I was terrified. I was terrified how I would make ends meet."
That's the story of one of three moms who are featured in a new video, "Child Care Is Hard but It Doesn't Have to Be," released by the National Women's Law Center (NWLC).

Bring Yoga into Your Home or Your Child's Child Care Program

Yoga has become quite a mainstream activity for adults but children can do yoga too.  Yoga at an early age sculpts young minds and bodies, and gives tools that will enhance and support children to be balanced, creative and calm individuals.  Check out our video below to view some simple ways to practice yoga with your children.

Health & Safety Corner
Sun Safety

The weather is finally getting warmer and children now have more time to play outside. Warm sunny days are wonderful, but children are especially vulnerable to ultraviolet radiation.

Check in with your caregiver about their sun-protection practices to ensure that children are protected from the sun while enjoying the outdoors.

Children are at greater risk for sun exposure because the outer layer of skin is thinner and they have more skin relative to their body mass. Therefore, a sunburn will cover more area and be more harmful. Sunburns are more than uncomfortable; they are also a major risk factor for melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer. The risk of skin cancer from sun exposure is significantly increased by time spent in the sun during childhood. Therefore, child care programs and parents need to work together to practice sun safety.
