In this session, members received an update on the status of the society, as well as recent accomplishments and future direction as determined by the board.

IIE Society for Health Systems to Appear at HIMSS16
 
Las Vegas welcomes the 2016 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, February 29 - March 4, 2016, at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. More than 40,000 healthcare industry professionals are expected to attend to discuss health IT issues and view innovative solutions designed to transform healthcare.
IIE's Society for Health Systems is proud to support this annual event that helps health IT professionals find the right solutions for their organizations.

Conference education sessions include preconference symposia on connected health, cybersecurity, interoperability, nursing informatics, patient engagement, physicians' IT and more. More than 300 peer-reviewed sessions, including workshops and roundtables, round out education offerings at HIMSS16.

Embrace Scientific Thinking - Process Problems: Hidden Treasures, Part II

In this recent blog post in The Shingo Exchange, the authors expound on the challenge many organization face in changing the way they solve problems.  The authors write that most of the leaders they behave instinctively rather than following a rigorous problem-solving approach. By doing that they fail to define the real problem, rely on instinct rather than facts, and jump to conclusions resulting in less than ideal solutions.
Action Learning: Key to Developing an Effective Continuous Improvement Culture

This Industry Week article describes an eight step learning process based on Toyota's management system for effective continuous improvement. A core element of the model is that learning should be an emotional experience base on real-world problems compared with class-room lessons. He compares this model with the well know PDCA improvement cycle. He also describes pitfalls and precautions and the absence of short-cuts to do this well.

Your usual change management approaches aren't working. You're thinking, "Why can't everyone just look at the project plan, deadlines and deliverables and get with the program?"
