Five Celebs Who are Letting the Sunshine In
Solar energy is cheaper and more efficient than ever. The price of utility-scale solar dropped 85% from 2009 to 2016, and newer panels can power up on even cloudy days. Rooftop solar is now cost-competitive with the traditional grid in much of the U.S. Heck, some cutting-edge companies see a market so ripe for the picking they're developing entire roofs made of solar panels to sell homeowners.  More

Experts Outline Pathway for Generating Up to 10 Terawatts of Power from Sunlight by 2030
The annual potential of solar energy far exceeds the world's energy consumption, but the goal of using the sun to provide a significant fraction of global electricity demand is far from being realized. Scientists... assessed the recent trajectory of photovoltaics and outlined a potential worldwide pathway to produce a significant portion of the world's electricity from solar power.  More

U.S. Senators Propose Switch to 100% Clean Energy by 2050
U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley, D-Ore, and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., along with U.S. Senators Edward J Markey, D-Mass., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., have proposed landmark climate change legislation that would transition the U.S. to 100% clean energy. The "100 by '50 Act" lays out a roadmap for a transition to 100% clean energy no later than 2050.  More

Minnesota Cities Learn From Buying Community Solar Together
The nation's first ever attempt to have municipal governments collectively buy power from community solar gardens was a modest success, according to a new report. While municipalities in other parts of the country have come together to buy rooftop solar, none had ever tried it to capture cost savings in the nascent community solar marketplace, said Trevor Drake, project manager at the Great Plains Institute.  More

Why It's a Critical Time to Be at the Forefront of Solar Software
As technology evolves, new players emerge and cost cuts remain a priority, solar industry leaders must look to the latest software solution in order to stay competitive, according to Paul Grana, co-founder of Folsom Labs. On May 16, GTM and Folsom Labs are hosting the second-ever S3 Solar Software Summit, which is the industry's first dedicated event covering the growing solar software ecosystem.  More

Solar-Power Push is on for Colorado Dealers
Federal tax incentives designed to get businesses to convert to solar energy will sunset at the end of 2019 - and a new initiative hopes to get as many Colorado dealers onto solar energy as possible before then.
