Inspirations

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.

~ Denis Waitley

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

~ Albert Schweitzer

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.

~ Melody Beattie

Dear fellow yogis and yoginis,

The signs of autumn are everywhere: in the chilly mornings, the falling red leaves, and the apple and pear harvests. This October is a very exciting time at BYM. We have so many changes and challenges to offer you. As we count our blessings in our gratitude challenge (see below!) we count each and every one of you among them.

We can't wait to see you in the hot room.

Warmest Regards,
Cheryl
and the BYM crew

October's Rocks!

There are so many awesome things happening this month that we're listing them all in one place for easy reference (and so that you can be as excited as we are).

The Winter Schedule is Here
The votes are in and the new winter schedule begins Thursday, October 1. You'll notice that there are classes at 9:30 and 4 everyday (all 7 days!), 6 pm Monday-Thursday and a brand new class: a one-hour class at 6:30 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The one-hour class was popular in the voting because it allows us to begin class just a little bit later in the morning. The 60-minute practice is a common variation of the 90-minute class; each posture is held one time only so it moves quickly and is a great way to wake up in the morning. However, we do suggest that the 60-minute class acts as a supplement to a regular 90-minute practice since the longer class still offers more sustained benefits.

October Special for Monthly Unlimited
If you've been looking for a reason to dig into your practice this month, here it is: if you buy a monthly unlimited pass during the month of October you'll pay only $89. It's a screaming deal - don't miss it!

October Gratitude Challenge
This month BYM is hosting a gratitude challenge for the month of October. The connection between a practice of gratitude and feelings of happiness have been noted by many researchers. Here is just one article if you're interested. Can you think of three things you're grateful for everyday? Come share with us on the BYM Facebook page.

October Friend Challenge
We always want to add more people into our loving, energetic community here at BYM, so we want to challenge you to bring your friends to class with you. This October, look for bring-a- friend punch cards at the front desk. Bring three friends and get 20% off a class card or merchandise!

October Donation
This month BYM will donate $100 to the Watson's Children's Shelter. The Watson's Children's Shelter helps over 100 children a year who are in desperate need of a safe, nurturing environment. If you would like to add to our donation, please leave your donation at the desk. You can learn more about Watson's Children's Shelter here.

College Night (aka Detox Before You Retox!) at BYM
This month we're putting a new name on a regular class: the Thursday night 6 pm class will be College Night. Present a valid college id and get into class for a $5 drop-in. Come in and sweat before you head out on the town!

Jeff Jamison is the Summer Challenge Winner!

Congratulations to Jeff Jamison, the winner of this year's summer challenge. Jeff came to class three times a week for 16 weeks - wow - and won a free unlimited year of yoga here at BYM. In a show of gratitude and kindness, Jeff has consolation prizes for the rest of the heart folks who completed the challenge. If you completed the challenge, you have a special present at the front desk. Congratulations to all of you!

Want to Leave Your Mat at the Studio?
Did you know that if you use auto-pay for your monthly classes you can store your mat at the studio for free? We have many spaces newly opened and hope some of you will take advantage of the opportunity. If you are not an auto-payer, you can also rent a spot on the yoga wall for only $10/month.
Also, if you used to be on auto-pay, but have discontinued: please come retrieve your mat from the lost and found! We will keep them through the month of October, but as of November 1, they will be GONE!

New Teacher in the Works
It is always so fun when one of our regular BYM yogi's decided to become a teacher. This month Carrie Lewis is attending teacher training with Sterling Yoga Works and is eager to bring her new knowledge back to the hot room later in October. Here's what she wants to tell you:

"I am a Registered Nurse with many years of critical care experience and the mother of two lovely little humans.  My husband and I have been practicing Bikram Yoga for over a decade.  With my 40th birthday approaching, reflections on my career path have led me to fulfill a longstanding dream of teaching the yoga that I love.  I am ready to fully integrate yoga into my lifestyle by sharing it with others.  I would like to be the type of teacher that has a presence and positive energy that inspires and motivates students to work hard and I hope to create an experience in the hot room that encourages the potential of each individual student.  I also have a "far-off" idea that my nursing career and yoga training are going to come together in the form of a workshop for nurses that focuses on accountability & resiliency. "

Dogs and Kids in the Studio?

Dearest yogis, we have a request to make of you. We know that your children and dogs are precious to you and that sometimes you might want to bring them with you to the studio, but we have to request that you let them stay at home. Children are, of course, welcome to take class, but please don't plan to let them sit in the lobby while you take class. If you have questions or concerns about this, please talk with Cheryl.
