From the man who wrote the unmistakable steady swing beats for the classic Charlie Brown "Peanuts" theme song to a twenty-something power house, this year The Empire Life Kingston Jazz Festival will bring big names centre stage.
Taking place from Thursday, June 21, to Saturday, June 23 this three-day festival is a collaboration between the Grand Theatre, Kingston Arts Council, Kingston Jazz Society and the Skeleton Park Music Festival. Featuring both large stage and intimate performances by world renowned names like Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas, Sophie Milman and Jerry Granelli to name a few. Musicians and audiences alike will experience the unbridled energy and emotional beauty that is at the core of this musical art form.
The Festival will present a riveting series of evening concerts, after-hours sessions and jazz-oriented educational events. Concerts will be held at the Grand Theatre's Regina Rosen Auditorium with cabaret-style, intimate performances following in the Baby Grand on Friday and Saturday evenings. Families can partake in the free Porch Jazz walk throughout Sydenham Ward on Saturday afternoon followed by a concert as part of the Skeleton Park Music Festival.
The Empire Life Kingston Jazz Festival is committed to a small-is-beautiful philosophy; every night of music is special.
