WEEK 22 – JAZZANOVA

Jazzanova are established as one of the leading Soul/jazz/House artists and their blend of feel good uptempo music is perfect for the dancefloor and keeping your spirits up. On The FunkHaus studio sessions their 7 piece band recorded live in the studio 14 tracks including reneditions of many of their hits, featuring Paul Randolph on vocals, and take their sound to a new level.


There’s also live CD/dvd from Sade and a pile of quality reissues and comps this week. next week sees the arrival of two excellent independent Soul albums from Big Brooklyn Red and Chidi , you can pre-order them now.

The Jubilee celebrations in London last weekend were quite something, There is a program on Channel 4 this Sunday 10th 10pm ‘Royal History Of Pop’ which includes something that may bring a smile to your face. Can’t say anymore but if you watch it you’ll understand. Click here for more info

TOP ALBUMS OF THE WEEK - week ending 8th June 2012

JAZZANOVA - THE FUNKHAUS STUDIO SESSIONS - CD - SONAR KOLLECTIV - NEW - £13.99
Brilliant album from Jazzanova recorded live in the Funkhaus studios with a seven piece band featuring the so soulful voice of Paul Randolph. On this album Jazzanova really do justice to their uptempo songs ‘Let me Show You’, ‘Look What You’re Doin To Me’ , ‘Let it Go’ and ‘I Can See’ which have that feel good factor. The mid tempo floaters ‘Lucky Girl’ and ‘No Use’ and the instrumentals ‘Theme From Belle Et Fou’ and ‘Fedtime’s Flight’ show the band at its tightest. This is great Soul music 2012 style but steeped in the tradition.

Eric Benet switches labels but retains a similar retro 70's Soul as on his last album 'Lost in Time'and has reinvented himself as 'The One'. The upper mid tempo dancers 'Harriett Jones' and 'Muzik', struttin semi funky 'Redbone Girl' will keep the feet moving The 2 stepper 'News For You' , mid tempo 'Waitin' and the slower 'Runnin' and 'Come Together' are quality soul music.On first hearing this could well be one of the soul albums of the year.

DOJO CUTS FT ROXIE RAY - TAKE IT FROM ME - CD - RECORD KICKS - NEW - £13.99 Sydney based Funk band Dojo Cuts are another James Brown inspired/ influenced outfit. Listen to the cover of Marva Whitney's 'What Do I Have To Do' or the fast furious 'Sonny's Strut' and the overtones are for there for all to hear. On the more Soul orientated such as 'Take From Me', the understated 'Sometimes It Hurts and Etta James' 'I'd Rather Go Blind' the band are superb and it gives lead singer Roxie Ray to show her vocal prowess.
