NIMBUS CDs BACK IN STOCK!
Throughout the late 70's and early to mid 80's L.A's Nimbus records produced a steady flow of quality Spiritual Jazz albums. The musicianship on these is outstanding and whilst the albums may not be quite a heavy or as well known as those Strata East or Black Jazz, they deserve much greater recognition. See below for a selection of great titles we have back in stock.

TOP ALBUMS OF THE WEEK - week ending 13th July 2012
JOSS STONE - THE SOUL SESSIONS VOL 2 (DELUXE EDITION) - S CURVE - CD - NEW - £14.99 Super album comprising mainly of covers of classic 70’s Soul tracks, ‘Soul Sessions Vol 2’ sees Joss Stone back on form and if anything it even eclipses her original ‘Soul Sessions’ from 10 years ago. Her voice has matured and she gives a gutsy performance aided by Betty Wright, Ernie Isley, Clayton Ivey, and Latimore and on some tracks the Czech Republic Orchestra. Labi Siffre ‘I Got The’, Swamp Dogg ‘1-2-3-4-5-6-7 Count The Days’, Womack And Womack ‘Teardrops’, Chi-lites ‘Give More Power To The people’ and ‘Stoned out of My Mind’, Willie Tee ‘First Taste Of Hurt’ and Terry Callier’s ‘Love We had Stays on my mind’ are amongst the 15 tracks given sympathetic but contemporary renditions. Very Good album

CESARS SALAD - THE LATIN BEAT VOL 2 - PERFECT TOY - CD - NEW - £12.99 Volume 1 from a few year back was strong, and if anything Volume 2 is stronger still. If you love Latin grooves – Boogaloo, Afro Cuban, Bossa it is all here. There are sublime covers of ‘A Song For My Father’, ‘Watermelon Man’ and ‘Night In Tunesia’. The original tunes are strong such as ‘La Serpiente’, ‘Jenjere’ and ‘El Dynamico’. Awesome musicians especially percussionist Cesar Granados.

LETTUCE - FLY - CD - VELOUR - NEW - 13.99 Lettuce is a 7 piece funky jazz band which includes Soullive members guitarist Eric Krasno and keyboardist Neal Evans. On their third album ‘Fly’ their punchy horn led retro funk sounds is at its best of the uptempo grooves ‘Lettsanity’, ‘Bowler’ and ‘Jack Flask’. There are a couple of good covers of classic funk tracks ‘Slipping into Darkness’ and ‘Monurail 3000’, and the high energy ‘Let it GoGo’ and more downbeat funk of ‘Fly’ and ‘Madison Square’ also groove along nicely. Good funky album.
