A year ago at this time my body was a bumbling mess. I had been caring for the horses for three months and I continued to tell myself that I should be over the hump. I can vividly remember getting out of bed in the mornings and feeling tiny muscles in my feet that I didn't know existed. And then the rest of my body would begin to chatter - hands, hips, shoulders.....There were daunting cold dark mornings and icicle tears of frustration while cleaning stalls that pushed me into a place of wondering if I could physically do this part of my job. Yet unknowingly the pain began to drop away and with quiet grace, my body began to accept the changes I had demanded of it.

I believe we all have an untapped endurance within us that longs to be revealed. It can be a shaky exhausting journey but if chosen, worth the angst. Emotionally and physically when we push through boundaries the limitless unfolding changes us forever.

Here's to a 2016 filled with strength!

 Corporations, Groups and Individuals Finding
Their  Own Unique Way Of Communicating

Did you know that pain drives change more then joy? So this means that if we push our true feelings down and tease ourselves into a place that makes us think we are in joy no movement takes place and the idea of letting the pain in is scary. Horses can see right through this and will shine a light in the direction that needs to be shown. As we gently blow off the layers of dust and reveal what isn't serving us the beautiful process of change can take place. Stepping into our vulnerability with a horse by our side is life changing.

As we begin to open to our vulnerability and create awareness, our unique voice is revealed. This is the corner stone to all relationships. When we do not move through the world with authentic communication, corporate teams run inefficiently, families are dysfunctional and our individual emotional and physical health suffers. Come to Soulful Prairies, a safe place to explore individual, group or corporate experiences. Corporate events can be customized with food options and special eventing offers ( team building, massage, yoga, healthy cooking and many others) Over night options are coming in 2017.

At Soulful Prairies we offer a beautiful environment where you can  take a deep breath, soak up nature, hang out with a fuzzy muzzled friend and just be. Take the calm home with you by scheduling an appointment with Soulful Prairies, the horses and Linda.

Feel free to call to find out if your needs fit what we have to offer.

On Thanksgiving, each of the retired horses sent a text to their owners. These precious souls deserve to be valued though all the stages of their lives!

Our chickens have been laying champs this winter and continue to give us an egg a day even with the cold temperatures. This particular morning we got to the coop a little late and ended up with egg popcycles.

As the the busy season wrapped up at Soulful Prairies we hosted a few beautiful private events. I can always feel Soulful Prairies smile when it helps bring families and friends together.

This was one of my favorite days. About fifty kids from Marillac House, which is on the south west side of Chicago, climbed onto a bus and made an hour plus treck out to Soulful Prairies.

There were not many smiles when they unloaded off the bus. My sense was that this long ride to the middle of nowhere seemed to be of no value in their minds and then as always Soulful Prairies, with all of her beauty, worked her magic. A walk to the gardens to help our Soulful Prairie farmer pick gourds, hoisting kids onto round bails to dance and giggle, a visit to the chicken house, a picnic and then my favorite part soaking up the breath of a moist fuzzy muzzle.

That big yellow bus bumping down the road on the way out buzzed with a happy energy and left a lasting grin on my face for days. High five Soulful Prairies!

The villagers had a bumper crop of pumpkins this year. Sheltered Village is a local facility that strives to create a comfortable safe environment for developmentally disabled adults. They planted and maintained a garden in our Grow and Share Gardens for the second year. When I catch the group  watering and weeding at the farm I am always drawn to take the time to say hello. I wouldn't miss those fantastic grins for anything.

Did you hear the sad news? All the trees along the driveway out grew their sweaters. Yup ! One year after they each had a special little sweater crocheted for them. So the new trees along the road got the hand me down sweaters. Myself, my sister and a Park Ridge friend have almost completed  all the sweaters to redress the driveway trees. We left room to grow so they should be wearing them for a few years to come. A special shout out to Grandma Jan who comes to help me dress the trees each year!

This fall we sunk some posts around the property. These hammocks are super convenient because you can squish them into a little bag and they take up no room at all. My favorite spot is in the corner of one of the paddocks. I was sure that the horses would come up and snuggle with me but in reality they are scared to death of the hammock. So -  I'm working on giving them a new point of view. For now I'll be swinging alone but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Anna Twinney returned for a day of creating a relationship with your horse from the ground into the saddle. Respect and confidence are the benefits of taking  the time it takes with your horse. This one day clinic was followed by three days of learning to listen to your intuition and finding your unique style of communicating with animals. These were eye opening experiences for everyone involved.

CSA is short for Community Supported Agriculture. Members who purchase a "share" of the CSA will be provided with seasonally fresh produce on a bi-weekly basis. One share is enough produce for a small family or two veggie loving adults, and will be ready for pick up at Soulful Prairies. TD n' Guy holds high quality standards to everything that we do so that when our food comes to you it is the best possible product. Our produce is guaranteed fresh and safe through the use of sustainable and organic practices.  Buying a share connects you directly to local farmers and strengthens the social, economic, and environmental dynamics within your local community. For more information, click here.

This year Soulful Prairies will be offering two options with the Grow and Share

1 - The Grow and Share Plots - 25x50 and 50x50 plots will be available again for individuals, families and groups. If you sign up for a plot you are responsible for planting and managing your own plot while getting the flexibility to grow whatever you like.

2- The new Grow and Share Community Market Garden - This is a cooperative garden under the direction of farmer Dan! You will be volunteering your time that you would normally spend on your own plot and reap the harvests of over 30 different kinds of fruits and vegetables. The purpose of this market garden is to supply produce for Soulful Prairie events, local farmers markets, Dan's CSA, and of course the Grow and Share Community Market Members.

You may of course take part in both of these fabulous programs and we will be running a few workshops and our annual picnic again this year.

* We will continue to ask members to donate a portion of their produce to not - f or - profit organizations in need.
