Satisfy your Soul

"Let us not forget that the cultivation of the earth is the most important labor of man. When tillage begins, other arts will follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of civilization."

-Daniel Webster

In this world of online shopping and automated everything, there's something so soul satisfying about a farmers' market., about the connection you feel when you buy directly from the person who created your food. The person who labored in the muddy fields to grow your vegetables. The person who kept the blossoms on the fruit trees warm by burning fires during a late spring frost. The person who tended the bees and who lovingly rolled the dough to make your pie.
These are people who followed their bliss and are passionate about what they do. And they want to share that passion with you, with the community. We're living in challenging times. Let the farmers' market be your respite and come spend a simple Saturday in the circle with us... good food, good music, and good people.

Sour Cherry Almond Cake

Nothing says summertime like sour cherries. Try this perfect summer dessert for your Fourth of July festivities!

Love your Farmers
Comeback Farm
Certified Organic
Comeback will have the red, white and blues for the fourth of July. Look for organic raspberries and tart pie cherries from Comeback, and organic blueberries from Rosedale Blueberry Farm.  And the don't miss the first picking, (actually shaking), of both purple and white mulberries from 100 year old trees in front of the farmhouse at Comeback, probably not a huge amount until next week though, they're just starting to ripen.
Scholl Orchards
Cool beans! String beans (green and waxed) arrive at Scholl Orchards this Saturday.
Try this delicious green bean recipe from Martha Stewart. https://www.marthastewart.com/348909/braised-string-beans-and-chickpeas

And be sure to grab your sour cherries for 4th of July pies. Ben and his crew have been busy picking all week. Get this summer delicacy while you ca because sour cherry season doesn't last long!

Backyard Growers

Richard's Flower of the week is Purple Setcreasea . A native of central-southern Mexico, it makes an easy-to-grow colorful ground cover with small attractive light lavender, butterfly-attracting flowers. Setcreasea also known as Wandering Jew, grows well in sun or part shade, but its coloration is best in full sun. It is drought-tolerant, but looks best with regular watering. The purple, deer-resistant leaves of setcreasea pair well with rudbeckia, daisies, daylilies, elephant ears, or any other white/yellow colored perennial. Check out other surprises, first blueberries?!
Pheasant Hill Farm
Pheasant Hill Farm will have lots of flowers for your holiday entertaining, along with star spangled kombucha. Don and Heather will be manning the kegs this week, so come say hi!

Locally Grown Music
Doug Hawk 10am-Noon

Doug Hawk's compositions are more positive affirmation than they are songs. This is intelligent, inspiring, grooving music that not only makes you think but groove, as well. Lyrically topical with a positive message. Comparisons to artists such as Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Steely Dan and Gill Scott-Heron are accurate but in a purely derivative sense. Don't miss Easton favorite Doug Hawk Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon.
