Best Practices at Baskin Robbins
Javaid Farooqi, the owner of three Baskin Robbins locations in the South Bay, has made the most of his participation in the Green Building Challenge (GBC).  He has taken advantage of FREE Level 1 energy audit at all three of his Baskin Robbins locations:  Gardena, Rancho Palos Verdes, and Torrance. The goal of this energy audit is to identify low-cost energy savings opportunities and make recommendations.  A report is provided that outlines the estimated annual energy and cost savings that can be achieved if the recommended energy efficiency measures are implemented.  Energy Benchmarking, the process of comparing a building's energy performance to a similar building, is part of the audit.

Energy StarĀ® Portfolio ManagerĀ® is the software used for  benchmarking in the GBC program.

Congratulations to Javaid for taking the steps to make his
businesses more energy efficient and increase his profit margins by saving money on utility his bills!

SBCCOG Celebrated National Drive Electric Week
The SBCCOG celebrated National Drive Electric Week (September 9-17, 2017) by participating in an event at the Harbor Gateway Transit Center on Saturday, September 16 th .  National Drive Electric Week, started in 2011 as National Plug In Day, is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.  These vehicles are fun to drive, are less expensive and more convenient to fuel than gasoline vehicles, are better for the environment, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Torrance Mayor Pat Furey and Hermosa Beach Mayor Justin Massey were in attendance, along with Victor Ibarra, Field Representative from Assembly Member Mike A. Gipson's office.  Electric vehicles from Honda, Chevrolet, VW, and Tesla were on display.
