Delivery Robots:
Last Mile Delivery Solutions

The 2018 SBCCOG General Assembly's theme on the "Evolution of Retail" for local cities featured important technology innovations that are changing the way businesses deliver goods to local customers.  As part of the event, Starship Technologies, the creator of a semi-autonomous delivery robot, participated by showcasing their new delivery robot.   The robots, originally designed as part of a contest for a Mars landing mission, have the capacity to provide local delivery of packages, groceries, and food - delivering up to 20lbs worth (three shopping bags) within 15-45 minutes, to homes within a 2-mile radius on demand.
Delivery technologies like the Starship robot are fast finding a place in the growing world of goods delivery.  Starship robots can be found in action in 15 different countries and the technology has been tested in over 100 cities including major metropolitan centers like San Francisco and London.  Pilot projects include food delivery as well as delivery of medicines and other light weight consumer goods continue to be tested and, to date, over 12 million people have encountered and interacted with the Starship robot.  The robot delivery service may not be as far away as you might thing.  At the General Assembly, Starship expressed interest in testing Starship robots right here in the South Bay!  Can you imagine a robot delivery system working for you and your business? SoCalGas &
SoCalGas Marketplace
SoCalGas Marketplace is an online tool that features incentives for energy-efficient home appliances and consumer electronics. SoCalGas works with Enervee to analyze product data from national retailers, manufacturers, and government agencies to rate the energy efficiency and popularity of over 50,000 products each day.
The Efficiency Score, provided by Enervee, has established a universal way of comparing a product's energy efficiency, based on industry standards, against all similar-sized models currently available. It also provides you the amount you can save on energy if you choose to purchase and use a more energy efficient product. The cost saving calculation is based on the average SoCalGas rate, how much you use a product (i.e. loads of laundry washed/dried per day), and the useful lifetime of the product (years of ownership).
Besides making it easy to find the most energy efficient products and available incentives from SoCalGas, this site also provides an easy way to apply for rebates online. Simply go to a product page that features a rebate and enter
your email address to receive an email providing you a link to the online rebate application. Just purchase the product online or in your favorite local store, upload a copy of your purchase receipt, along with other required
documents into the online application and then submit your application. It  really is that simple!

West Basin Partners with City of Los Angeles

West Basin recently announced that the public agency has signed a memorandum of agreement to partner with the City of Los Angeles to launch a pilot program at the City's Hyperion Water Treatment Facility that will improve water quality at Hyperion and increase production of recycled water for the City and West Basin service area. This expanded partnership joins West Basin, the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation, and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to almost double the City's recycling capacity at Hyperion from approximately 40 to 70 million gallons of water per day (MGD) in order to conserve potable water supplies and provide a locally-controlled water resource.
