Greetings!
7 pm Sunday May 6, don't miss NPR From the Top, broadcast locally on KDFC 89.9FM and 90.3FM, to hear Ashwin Krishna's Carnegie Hall performance taped before a live audience! It's exciting to see Ashwin's steady rise to the national stage. We congratulate him and his teachers, Scott Cmiel (currently) and Scott Gossage (earlier).
As mentioned last month, Ashwin Krishna and Sean Keegan have been selected to compete at the 2012 Christopher Parkening Young Guitarist Competition, to be held May 29-30 at Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA. They are 2 of only 10 who qualified nationally!
Additionally, Sean Keegan will be performing May 20 at the Pacific Musical Society's 2012 Winners Concert at the San Francisco Conservatory, in recognition of his first place finish in this year's 14-17 age-group guitar competition (mistakenly reported as competing against piano, voice, and other string instruments last month: my error).
South Bay Guitar Society's last concert of the 2011-2012 season, a Showcase featuring Sofia Gleeson, Teja Gerken, and the Duo SF with Robert Miller and Chris Mallett, will be held May 12 at the Theatre at San Pedro Square. Tickets are selling briskly: get yours online soon!
However, we already have a new season in store! See our 2012-2013 line up at sbgs.org.
If you haven't been to the sbgs.org website recently, take a look. We just released a complete redesign, including advanced features such as responsiveness (site adapts to device type, such as iPhone), a powerful event calendar with display filters, and light box video. The calendar will enable us to provide more robust and comprehensive listings -- let us know if you have an event you want listed.
Open mic will be 7 pm Tuesday May 22, with guest host Charles Perkins.
See you soon!
