Message from Principal Tammy Hayes
Hello Everyone!

We have some awesome children here at South Elementary School! They continue to work hard and want to be prepared for the next grade. Thank you for encouraging your child to attend school everyday and have fun learning. We have so little time left in the school year, so we want to make the most out of each and every day.

You can really help your child succeed in school by making sure they are getting  the right amount of sleep . Most school aged kids need at least 10 hours of sleep a night. I know bedtime difficulties can arise for a variety of reasons. Homework, sports, after school activities, TV, video games, as well as  hectic family schedules can all contribute to kids not getting enough sleep. I have learned that lack of sleep can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior in kids and it is difficult for them to pay attention in class. Please remember to leave enough time to unwind before lights out and try to limit TV, video games, and Internet access .

Many kids have been doing a little Spring cleaning in their desks and lockers this past week! As I walked through the halls, I realized we may need to assist children with organizational skills. It must be somewhere in our curriculum! Maybe we all need to help with this one. Check out what it means to be  organized at the elementary level .  I need to be a better example for the kids too!

We continue to work on breaking the library book check out record, and so we really need to kick it in this month if we want to reach our goal. Remember to read, read, and read some more!

In partnership,
Mrs. Hayes :)
