South Florida
Healthcare Digest
Community Events, Education and Networking For Healthcare and Elder Services Professionals
April 21, 2013
In the good news and bad news department...the good news is many of you are reading this to plan your week. The bad news is every once in awhile I get it wrong. Apparently the FHCSWA Miami-Dade chapter did NOT meet last Thursday, and unfortunately several of you faithful readers found out the hard way. This meeting is a recurring event in my calendar, and I had not received any update. I am working to make sure that this doesn't happen again. I do try hard to verify all of the information, and the fact that this was a rare exception proves I do try to get it right!!!

There is an issue of critical importance being debated in our state legislature right now, concerning funding for the Alzheimer's Day Care program at NE Focal Point in Deerfield Beach. If you live in Broward County (or south Palm Beach County) I urge you to contact your local legislators to inform them of your support for reinstating funding for this important service.

I always get questions about how and when events make it into the Digest. It's really pretty simple: First, I have to get word about it (that's where all my faithful networking correspondents come in...yes, that means YOU!). Second, it has to have a healthcare or elder services connection. Third, if it is a conference, fundraiser or health fair, I do try to put it in the Upcoming Events section at least a month before so that you have time to register, and to build awareness. Otherwise, everything goes in on the Sunday of the week in which the event takes place. This is the only way I can keep this concise enough to be a useful tool when you are on the street, viewing it through your smart phone, and figuring out if there's something you can squeeze into your busy schedule!

I'm the first one to admit that this is  not a complete listing of everything that's happening, but I do try! And every day brings me a new subscriber, and someone else to help keep me in the loop. So when you see something in your inbox that you think others should know about, please forward it to me! Thanks!

Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in the healthcare and elder services community, and encourage them to join the mailing list (it's free to subscribe, and there's an easy link at the bottom). And if you have an event to share, call me at 561.654.4164, or hit reply and let me know the details, or forward it to my mailing address soflahcdigest@att.net. Thanks!

Best regards,
Mike Penn
