South Hills Holds Spring Graduation Ceremony
Congratulations to the June 2018 Graduating Class!

The Spring Commencement Ceremony was held on June 21 at The Penn Stater in State College. Specialized Associate Degrees were awarded to graduates in the following programs:

"Pets of South Hills" Photo Contest
Submission Details:

Submit your photo to [email protected] and include the following:
·      your name
·      your pet's name
·      your campus
·      status (student, faculty, alumni, staff). If you're a student or alumni, also include your program and year of graduation.
·      optional details: Add any other info you'd like such as how you met your pet, what your pet likes to do, etc.  
You're invited to join us for some summer fun and to participate in our " Pets of South Hills " photo contest. 

Send in a picture of you, along with your pet(s),with each complete submission, and you'll be entered in a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card.
LEVEL UP - Get a 2nd entry for the drawing by answering the following BONUS QUESTION : If your pet enrolled at South Hills, which of our 11 programs would they be most likely to choose and why?
Deadline : All entries must be received by 07/31/18 to be eligible for the drawing.

South Hills alumna, Katey Crean, reflects on her time at South Hills and offers advice for incoming and current students. Katey graduated from the Business Administration - Management & Marketing program in 2017, and is now a Digital Media
Manager for Hello Social Co.
Business Administration–Management & Marketing (BAMM) students from our Altoona Campus recently presented a Social Media Marketing Plan to the  Blair County Planning Commission (BCPC) with recommendations of how Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and a blog can be used in marketing efforts to raise awareness about the organization throughout the community.

The Student Ambassadors Club at our Lewistown campus held multiple fundraisers throughout the year, and used those funds to make a charitable contribution to the Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce in effort to keep the Independence Day celebration a part of the community.
The 7th annual Sonographers’ Symposium , held at our State College Main Campu s, was attended by more than 100 professionals and students in the medical imaging field.

At the conference, participants earned continual medical education (CME) credits and were given an opportunity to network with industry leaders, fellow sonographers, and representatives from national ultrasound equipment manufacturers.
Students from each of our eleven programs are required to complete an internship upon completion of their program. Throughout the students' internship, they are provided with
real-world working experience in their fields before graduation.

Each year, an Internship Appreciation Luncheon is held to honor each internship supervisor. This is our way of thanking those employers who have provided our students with such an invaluable service.

Appreciation awards are given to those businesses who have accepted South Hills interns for five or more years. This year, the following businesses were recognized:



First-year Medical Assistant (MA) students at our Lewistown campus have successfully completed their certification examination to become Electrocardiography Technicians through the National Healthcare Association . This credential demonstrates that the students have the ability to perform the critical tasks that are required to administer electrocardiograms (EKG or ECG).

Bryant Moses, Jamey Shreckengast, Tess Bechdel
Three members from our PBL club qualified to compete at the PBL National Leadership Conference in Baltimore, MD.

Facing some of the top qualifiers from across the country, the team of Bryant Moses and Tess Bechdel, both first year BAMM 's, placed 12th in the nation in Hospitality Management. First year AP student, Jamey Shreckengast, also competed at the national level in Administrative Technology.

The South Hills PBL Chapter received the First Place award for having the Largest Local Chapter in the Eastern Region.
Discover Drones Camp
Discover Drones  is a 20-hour class series designed for students in grades 7 through 12. Students first learn the basics of drone operation on our our Flight Simulator Lab and later get hands-on flight experience.

The Discover Drones curriculum teaches science and technology skills. Over the course of a week, our camp participants will build, configure, and fly a high-performance racing RubIQ drone.

Upon completion of the program, students become Certified Droneologists.

AED Devices Installed at the State College Campus
In a joint effort with Centre LifeLink , two Automated External Defibrillation (AED) stations have been added to the State College Campus, and the Cato Building.

Students of the Health Careers Club, IT Club, AP Club, COPS Club, and Entrepreneur Club held several fundraisers during the course of the year raising $1,295 to assist in the purchase of the devices.
Shearer Receives AAUW Educational Scholarship
Lisa Shearer, DMS Student & Winner of the Suzanne McCrae Scholarship
Lisa Shearer, a student in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program was recently awarded the Suzanne McCrae Kerlin Scholarship by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) State College Branch . Lisa was chosen to receive the honor based on her academic performance; her community service and volunteer work; and the quality of her scholarship application. Congratulations, Lisa!

Founded in 1881, AAUW is a nationwide organization of about 165,000 members that has a mission of advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.

Members of the State College Campus' Administrative Professional (AP) Club, along with AP Club adviser, Eleanor Martin, organized an Appreciation Luncheon to send a big thank you to instructors and local employers and to celebrate the students’ internships. The club members worked collaboratively to put together this great event. They were in charge of planning, fundraising, budgeting, and designing the materials for the luncheon.
