The League of Women Voters and redistricting reform
The League of Women Voters (LWV) does not support or oppose candidates or political parties, but it does advocate on public policy positions. Currently, redistricting reform is a major League priority in Ohio and the nation. Over time, both political parties have been guilty of gerrymandering - drawing district boundaries that favor the party in power and create "safe" seats for legislators. Leagues across the nation have been working for redistricting reform regardless of which political party reaps immediate benefits.
Since 1980, LWV of Ohio has advocated redistricting by bipartisan commission with citizen participation to achieve congressional and state legislative districts that are compact, contiguous, and congruent with political boundaries as much as possible. More information about the LWV of Ohio's redistricting reform efforts, including a timeline, can be found on the LWV of Ohio website.
