What's new at TOS!

Hello again Everyone.
As you will see in this newsletter and those following throughout the season our new Backyard Events schedule is going to be jam packed with fun things to do, see and learn. For that reason we are no longer going to be doing the 2nd Saturday Pot Luck dinner.   Many other things will be taking it's place....including occasional pot lucks. Our newsletters will be keeping you informed of our scheduled events, but watch Facebook also because an impromptu get together ...such as the evening with AndrĂ© the Singer this past  Sunday.....can happen at any time.  People find us and suddenly something is happening.

NEW BUILDING    Our new classroom building is almost ready for occupancy thanks to the volunteers who cleaned and painted over this last month.  A few of the offerings in that building are in this newsletter but more proposals are coming in so check in regularly for additions to the schedule.

PARKING    And to go with the new classroom and the shortage we already had will be,,,yeah!...additional parking.  The entrance to the parking area will be the driveway just south of the new building at 320 Old Englewood Rd and it will exit from the rear out onto Yale Street.  There will be one long continuous stone driveway and the parking is diagonally off either side on the grass.  Then back out and continue out the rear driveway.  We would like anyone who is spending extended time...2 plus hours...on site to please use this area and leave the front parking for customers and members or first time visitors who are just stopping for a short time.

Please mark  December 18th on your calendar and join us for a Holiday Garden Party to kick off the first  Sunday of our Emerging Artisan's Program.  Details will be shared closer to the date.

Read on for introductions to new people and new activities at The Open Studio. We are all looking forward to a creative and healthy season.

Thanks, Evelyn

Join us Friday October 28th at 5:30pm!  Transition Venice and The Open Studio would like to invite you to a beautiful evening here, at TOS. There will be a Pot luck, bon fire and lively discussions regarding improved resilience in our local communities.

This is a must event for anyone interested in starting a Transition Initiative in Englewood or North Port.  Transition Venice members will be on hand to discuss the opportunity and your questions.

Sam Baker, The Open Studio Garden Manager and owner of Englewood Homegrown will lead a tour and discussion group around the TOS grounds at  4:30pm  for anyone who would like to come a little early and see the over 30 fruit trees and other edible landscaping that Sam has throughout the property.  He is working on a 1/2 acre food forest on our back lot using a chop and drop method to build the soil between rows of trees for vegetable planting.  He has also been taking cuttings and starting trees from seed in our on site nursery and can talk about that process and his grafting plans for anyone who is interested.

TOS has a new Backyard Events Manager

Recent NH transplant Bill Lundgren has volunteered as the new Backyard Events Manager. Working with Greg Dales, Bill will help plan and manage all aspects of providing entertainment in many forms for The Open Studio Community. Scheduling of The Stage and backyard space, booking performers, and event promotion are part of Bill's responsibilities. If you know of a performer(s) who you think would be a good fit for our unique venue - and certainly not limited to musicians or dancers - sent their contact info to Bill. The more variety we have, the better for everyone.

Bill can be reached at  603-558-8394 or BackyardEvents@TheOpenStudio. org
