FirstGear has introduced five new boot styles for 2013.  In recent seasons, Tour Master has been dominant in making good street boots in the $100 range, but now FirstGear is in there too.

I've spent a lot of time reviewing and checking size on these boots and I'd like you to consider a pair.
I think the value and quality are very good and the styling is excellent.

Right now, get a double size Loyalty store credit with the purchase of any of these boots.

About availability:
The introduction of these boots has either been really successful or a bit rocky with regard to initial availability, but there are many size selections that are stocked out until April.  Hopefully most of you can find your size.  Please use the drop down menu on the product page to view what we have available right now.

Mesh Hi Boots

  • Perforated leather toe box with mesh shaft
  • Hard ankle and shin protection
  • Hook-and-loop covered main zipper
  • Toe shift patch

... These boots are a typical height street boot that is designed to give a lot of ventilation. The boots have generously sized mesh panels down the outside of the leg/ankle. These panels will allow a lot of venting to come through. Also the leather used in part of the foot area is perforated. Like the Kili Hi boot (the WP cousin of this street boot), you'll see the things you would expect in a street rider's boot like this.... an inside zipper closure with a Velcro-close flap to protect the zipper (and your paint job). The heel area and toe box are reinforced and there is a protective pad over the toe area where your shifter is likely to hit. The boots are soft and flexible and should break in easily. The insides are lined with a cellular breathable fabric (also very common). There is an armor stiffener placed on the outside of the ankle bone and also one in the shin area. The inside of the ankle isn't armored per se, but there is double leather in that area (because of the zipper cover). The combination of materials on this boot makes it light and comfortable. I like the looks of the perforated leather too. I'd recommend this style for those that don't expect rain and for those who ride in anything from cool to hot weather . Overall a great value which I think you will enjoy... (more)

Mesh Lo Boots

  • Mesh upper
  • Lace-up fit with hook-and-loop ankle strap
  • Hard ankle and toe box protection
  • Toe shift patch

A lot of people like a hiker-style boot for riding, and this one is specifically built for those people and for hot weather use. The Mesh Lo boot is a combination of leather and mesh which will allow a lot of air flow. The height of the boot covers the ankle bones (a minimum design feature in my opinion for a protective style), and to provide some impact protection there are integral plastic impact pieces fitted on either side of the ankle. You can see where those are secured by stitching in the close up pictures (the circle on either side). The heel area and toe box is reinforced. There is a layer of rubber-like material over the toe to firm up the boot where you shift (and to protect the boot from wear). The sole is a typical firm rubber design. A lace boot like this gives a lot of adjustability for fit and the laces are kept in check with the loop eyelets and the little Velcro-close strap over the upper end. Very nice. The price on these boots is very attractive and the quality seems good, so I think you will enjoy owning a pair. (more)

Kili Hi WP Boots

  • Fully waterproof
  • All leather upper with toe shifter patch
  • Hook-and-loop covered zipper access
  • Hard ankle and shin protection

I'm excited to be offering this new Kili Hi WP boot from FirstGear!  For the overall quality and feature list I'm seeing, these boots are a great value.... The "Hi" version here is a standard height boot with an integral waterproof breathable liner. You'll see the things you would expect in a boot like this.... inside zipper closure with a Velcro-close flap to protect the zipper (and your paint job). Overall, I like this boot and think it is a great value. I don't think you can go wrong here. (more)

Kili Lo WP Boots

  • Lace-up style fit with hook-and-loop ankle strap
  • Leather and composite upper
  • Hard ankle and toe box protection
  • Toe shift patch

The new Kili Lo WP Boot is a very nice new style that will appeal to all sorts of riders. These boots are styled somewhere between a sneaker and a hiking boot. Very nice. The boots have a waterproof liner that comes all the way up the tongue area. The back of the boot is cut low so consider that to be the highest point up to which you are waterproof. Overall, this is a very nicely styled, good quality boot. The value is there too. (more)

Kathmandu Boots

  • Full leather upper
  • Waterproof-breathable HiporaŽ lining
  • Dual cam-buckle closures
  • Accordion leather fore-arch and Achilles heel panels
  • Hard toe box and shin protection

The FirstGear Kathmandu is a taller boot with styling and features aimed at adventure touring riders or dual-sport riders. A boot like this typically is taller than street boots and will have some features and style that are more motocross-like. For example, the lower portion of the boot closes with adjustable buckles and the inside surface of the boot has a more suede-like finish. This finish will act as a heat shield material and also offer more tactile grip than a slick leather surface. The tactile grip is more of a factor in off-road/dual sport, adventure type riding because you'll use your legs and feet more to control the bike. The soles of these boots have a bit more aggressive tread for stability and grip on non-asphalt surfaces. There is also a built-in waterproof breathable liner. The toe box and heel areas are reinforced and there is a protection pad where your shifter will hit. The armor on the sides of the ankles and the shin are what I would call "light padding" so they don't have hard plastic inserts that I would otherwise call "armor". Anyway, you'll notice the price on this boot is MUCH less than similar boots from Sidi, TCX and Alpinestars. Why? Well if you could handle this boot alongside the others you'd realize it is a "light" version of those other boots. The thickness of materials, the sturdiness of the armored areas, the quality of the closures.... all of that are "light". I'm not saying it is not a good boot because I would judge it to be a reasonable quality product, but I can't tell you it is in the same class as the others. Will it work for you? Well, consider what type of service you want and how "hard core" you are. If you don't really work your boots hard on the bike and you don't ride a lot of miles, then you'll probably be very happy with the FirstGear boots. In fact, you'll probably be more than happy because you didn't drop $350 and then not really use it to its full capacity. But if you are the flipside, then realize that these boots are not an equal of the others and love them for what they are. And for the price, they are hard not to love :) (more)
