with Giovanni Manetti of
Osteria Mozza's Primo Ministro Room
Friday, April 20th
Purchased by Dino Manetti
in 1968, the Fontodi
estate has consistently made some of the most strikingly delicious Sangiovese-based wines in all of Tuscany, wines that are routinely cited as the preeminent expressions of their type. With extensive holdings in the celebrated conca d'oro (the amphitheater-shaped ring of vineyards located just below the hilltop town of Panzano), Fontodi produces a range of wines, including Pinot Nero, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. The core of the estate's production, however, belongs to its three Sangiovesi: a benchmark Chianti Classico, a Cabernet-inflected reserve bottling known as Vigna del Sorbo
, and a stately 100% Sangiovese, Flaccianello delle Pieve, one of Italy's first and best 'Super-Tuscans'. Now under the direction of Dino's son, Giovanni, Fontodi has managed to preserve artisanal winemaking practices while maintaining its status as one of the most modern and progressive wineries in Italy. Though a hyper-modern cantina was built in 1998, and though he continues to expand and modernize the facility, Giovanni has maintained a distinctly natural approach to the wines themselves.
His farming has been organic since 1990, and he makes extensive use of traditional techniques
throughout the production process.
We are overjoyed to be welcoming Giovanni to the Osteria for a very special winemaker dinner. Executive Chef Matt Molina
has prepared a four-course menu inspired by the flavors of Tuscany, and to match the food, we will be offering four three-vintage verticals of Chianti Classico, Sorbo, and Flaccianello-along with a couple of surprises, of course! Fourteen wines in all, five delectable courses of food, and an evening with one of Tuscany's most influential and dynamic winemakers...if you're a Chianti lover, this is a night not to be missed!
Please note-seating at this event will be extremely limited. Please contact us soon if you would like a seat at the table!
