Dear Friends,

This past weekend I shared with our congregation my decision to step down from my role as Pastor on June 1. This will be my 20th year leading our community. While it has been a tremendous experience to guide the vision of Spiritus and oversee the running of our church, it is time for me to hand that gift on to our next pastor. I will continue to be a priest at Spiritus, but I will not be "in charge" of the administration and other aspects of our wonderful community. I will still be preaching and celebrating Masses. I look forward to being able to lead retreats, teach, counsel and dedicate my time to social justice issues. My transition to a new supportive role at Spiritus frees us to hire a new pastor and to reset our vision for the next twenty years. I'm very excited to see who God brings us for that leadership!

The next step in finding our next pastor for Spiritus Christi is an all parish forum on January 22. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting at 7 pm at Spiritus. At that meeting, the Visioning Board and Hiring Committee will be present to hear your comments and questions. They will explain the hiring process for our new pastor. Our elected Visioning Board includes Chairperson Rudy Diedreck, Amy Mayfield, Tanya Johnson, Lou Anne DaRin, Kristin French, Kevin Bishop, Kathleen Tranelli, Lisa Moretto, Kirsten Reader, Maureen Marlow, Ched Myers, Rachel McGuire, Fr. Jim, Rev. Myra, and myself. Our Visioning Board has appointed a hiring committee that is already working on the process of hiring our next pastor. Serving on the hiring committee are Chairperson Karen Kosten, Rudy Diedreck, Jim Smith, Amy Mayfield, Rita Metras, Tanya Johnson, Fr. Jim and myself. We have a lot of talented and experienced people to guide us in this process, and the greatest wisdom lies in our community itself. Together we can listen closely to one another and let the Spirit guide us as it always has.

Remember, you can listen to the weekend homilies on our Spiritus Christi app or view it on our channel on YouTube at Spiritus Christi. You can also find a link to the homily on our website at  www.spirituschristi.org or on our Facebook page.

Our hearts are with Mary Jean Smith on the death of her husband, Jerry. Our love goes out to the entire family including Jim (Julie) Smith. Jerry's funeral Mass will be this Saturday, January 13, at 10 am at Spiritus.

Thank you for your generosity over the Christmas holidays. We received many donations for our church ministries and for our outreaches to the poor. It is awesome to know we can continue to make a difference in many peoples' lives and that we are able to reach out and support those who live on the edge of poverty and hopelessness. God is so big...we have only to be willing to serve and ready to listen.

This comes with love,

Rev. Mary
