Last Week's Collection: $12,438

Dear Friends,

Our three-part series continues on September 12, with the second meditation from 6:15-7:30 pm in the Shaw Room. These three evenings are times for us to focus on forgiving ourselves and forgiving others so that we might be at peace. Forgiving is key to growing spiritually. Without forgiving, we can stay locked up in anger and resentment and preoccupied with past hurts. It's impossible to go through life without experiencing hurt; but it is possible to heal from it. Here's a beautiful prayer that God gave us for last week's meditation. If you'd like the whole prayer, send me an email at  office@spirituschristi.net.

...The scars of emotional pain -- all must heal through the soul
Witness this from The Center
Child, I am The Center
Collapse into me
Fall joyfully into me
Bring your hurts and scars and hand them to me
I am already within each hurt, each scar, and each resentment
I am The Center...
As you release another, you find my Heart
You forgive
You grow into me as you forgive
I am The Center
I am the forgiveness you offer to another
I am the Center

Many of our parishioners have relatives and friends in Florida or have moved to Florida themselves. You have been in our thoughts and prayers this past weekend as Hurricane Irma descended upon your home. Please write to us and let us know how you are doing; we are anxious to hear! office@spirituschristi.net.

We heard from our friends Gloria, Nadxhieli, Julio Cesar, and Abraham in Chiapas. They described the three-minute earthquake as frightening and ugly but no one we know there was injured, thank God.

We have a very exciting year coming up in Religious Education and Youth Group! Sunday School classes and Youth Group meetings are starting September 24. Join us for a fun Family Liturgy and Pot Luck Supper on Saturday, September 16 at 5 pm to kick-off the year! Bring a dish-to-pass and be ready to meet up with friends you know already and connect with friends you have not yet met!

Our Speaking from the Heart Ministry will meet again on October 1 at 11:30 am at Spiritus. Our immigrant friends are in need of some help -- a safer house for one family who is experiencing hate crimes; a computer savvy person who can tweak their donated computer; an apartment or a room to rent for a single woman, a computer keyboard. If you can help, please contact Marybeth Knowles at  mknowles@rochester.rr.com.

Thanks  to all of you who contacted me and donated a couch, chair, beds, table and chairs for a small family in need. They are very grateful.

Save the date for the SC Mental Health Center's annual RIVERWALK on Sunday, October 22 from 11 am-3 pm. There will be a 5K route, lunch, a photo booth, kid's crafts, music and more. If you're interested in helping out with the event, please contact Amy or Maureen at 325-1180.

We had a beautiful golf tournament and barbeque last Sunday for the Grace of God Recovery House. Here's a note from Sr. Margie: Thank you, Spiritus Christi! You raised $48,183.15 for Grace of God Recovery House during the month of August. Your generosity and love for the ministry saves lives and gives hope to those who suffer from the terrible diseases of alcoholism and drug addiction. Thanks also to all who worked so hard to make our fundraising successful. To the volunteers, Spiritus Christi office staff, our pastors, the Grace of God staff and Advisory Board, current and former residents, Shadow Lake staff, golfers & BBQ dinner guests, Home Dinner hosts and guests, Fresh Start sponsors and all who helped in any way, YOU ARE AWESOME and we are blessed because of you. Thank you. Here's the breakdown of funds: Spiritus Christi Collection $13,357, Fresh Start $4,560, Home Dinners $12,718, Golf $14,679.22, Donations $2,868.93.

Our love goes to the family of Eileen Stellwagen whose funeral Mass we celebrated last Saturday. And our hearts are with the family of Mary Ann Derleth, especially those in Florida who were unable to attend Saturday's service as they faced Hurricane Irma.

Many of you marched in the Labor Day Parade in support of NYS farmworkers. Here's a note from Marilu Aguilar: THANK YOU, SPIRITUS AND ALL. Our heartfelt thanks to all who marched! There were 80 of us who marched from Rochester, Brockport, Sodus and Lyons, NY. We had great coverage by Spectrum TV -- the title of their video was "Farmworkers Rights at the Forefront of Labor Day Parade." The video will help create more awareness of farmworkers' struggles and the bill in Albany. If you like, you can check their website to view the video and learn more.

Love, Rev. Mary

A parishioner is in need of furniture. He needs the following: a couch (sectional or conventional), end tables, and a dining room table (any size). Please contact Rev. Myra Brown (325-1180 x 117) with any items you are able to donate. Thank you!

FROM THE MOTHER EARTH COMMUNITY: Join us for the next planning meeting for the Mother Earth Community and bring your ideas on how we can help our earth and all of its inhabitants. We will meet in the Friendship Room on Monday, October 2 at 5:45 pm. Don't mow that milkweed yet. There may still be caterpillars feeding on it. The monarch butterflies that are being hatched around this time will fly all the way to Mexico and stay for the winter before they fly north to another southern location and lay their eggs on milkweed there, to start a new generation that will fly north. Another miracle is the migration of the hummingbird, who will fly non-stop to Central America.

FROM THE COMMUNITY: Beyond Brunch for Borgne, sponsored by Honeoye Falls/Borgne Sister Cities and Friends of Borgne -- support education in Borgne by eating brunch Sunday, September 17, 11:30 am-2 pm at the Mendon Community Center (167 N.
