Winter Sports Season coming to a close


Come on out and support your Leigh athletes at upcoming games.  Game and match schedules can be found on the Leigh Athletics website.


Wrestling 
The team stands at 3-2 in league matches, with two more matches left in the season before BVAL and CCS competitions begin.  The wrestlers have performed well in tournaments also.  In mid December, the team took 3rd Place at the Lincoln Wrestling Tournament,  Individual medalists include Grant Kaiser (1st), Trevor Kaiser (1st) Garrett Baerenstecher (2nd), and Trevor Strachman (2nd).  In January, the team took 2nd place at the El Camino Tournament and 5th place at the Jim Root Tournament.  Trevor Kaiser was named as Wrestler of the Tournament in both.  Trevor and Grant Kaiser were both champions at the Jim Root Tournament.  At the El Camino Tournament, champions in their weight class included Trevor Kaiser, Grant Kaiser, and Trevor Strachman.  Also medaling were Jack Thomson (2nd), Garrett Baerenstecher (3rd), Zack Bretzke (3rd), and Tyler Elder (5th)


Girls' Soccer 
The girls team is currently 6-0-4 in league play and 8-1-5 overall, currently tied for 1st place in the Mount Hamilton Division after two 1-1 tie games against league co-leader Sobrato. The team travels to Leland and Piedmont Hills this week before returning home to close out the regular season with games against Pioneer on Tuesday, Feb 13th and Branham on Friday, Feb 16th. The team is currently projected by Prep2Prep sports to be the 7th seed in the Division 1 playoff bracket.

Boys' Soccer 
The team is currently 2-7-1 in league play, 2-11-2 overall, playing two games this week and returning home on Monday, Feb 12th to take on Pioneer.  The game is at 5:30 in the newly turfed Leigh stadium and will include a Senior Night ceremony and celebration - come on out and cheer your Leigh athletes to a win!


Girls' Basketball
The girls started the week with a 0-5 record in league and 7-12 overall.  The team travels to Leland for a game Tuesday and will be back home for a Thursday, Feb 8th game against Willow Glen before finishing their season with a game against Silver Creek at home on Feb 15th.

Boys' Basketball 
The team stands at 7-3 in league and 9-11 overall. The team got a big win against Willow Glen last week, moving them into second place alongside Willow Glen in the BVAL Mount Hamilton Division. The boys took on undefeated league opponent Piedmont Hills this week in a game that was on the Cal-Hi Sports Show this past Sunday - the boys ended up on the losing end of a 78-71 battle. The JV team started the week with an impressive 8-2 league record, 17-2 overall, and won the Del Mar Tournament for the second year in a row.

A Full Week of Senior Nights - Come Out and celebrate the Senior Athletes


The week of February 12th features a Senior night every day that week - a dream for all you diehard sports fans out there!  Help the coaches and teams celebrate and honor their Seniors by coming out and cheering them on.  Most ceremonies are held about 15 minutes before the start of the Varsity game. 

  • Monday, Feb 12th - Boys' Soccer
  • Tuesday, Feb 13th - Wrestling
  • Wednesday, Feb 14th - Boys' Basketball
  • Thursday, Feb 15th - Girls' Basketball
  • Friday, Feb 16th - Girls' Soccer 
     

BVAL All League Honors - Fall Sports


At the end of each high school sport's season, the coaches from every team in the league get together to determine the athletes that deserve All League recognition for their outstanding seasons. It is a great honor and Leigh Sports Boosters wants to congratulate all of the Leigh athletes chosen for the Fall season:

Alumni athletes returned to Leigh in December to take on their former Leigh teammates on the new Leigh field. Fun was had by all!

Spring Sports - New Coaches and Tryouts/Practices Starting


Coaches have been hired for several of the Spring sports teams:

  • Badminton - Patrick McDonnal, Head Coach
  • Softball - Tammy Klauser, Varsity Head Coach
  • Boys' Tennis - Gene Fortino, Head Coach
  • Swim - Ross Morrill, Head Coach

Number of athletes on roster for Spring sports:

  • Badminton - 100
  • Softball - 40 girls on JV; 16 girls on Varsity
  • Swim - 150
  • Track & Field - 135
  • Golf - 50 boys
