BROWNSBURG SCHOOLS SET NEW RECORD WITH EIGHT FOUR-STAR SCHOOLS

The Indiana Department of Education has announced that eight Brownsburg schools have earned the 4-Star rating. This is a record high for Brownsburg which improved from six 4-Star schools in the previous two school years. Brown Elementary, Delaware Trail Elementary, Eagle Elementary, Reagan Elementary, White Lick Elementary, East Middle School, West Middle School and Brownsburg High School have all been recognized as 4-Star schools.
The 4-Star School Award is given to A schools with ISTEP scores in the top 25th percentile in all grade levels and is based on 2014 ISTEP results. To earn the award, a school must have COMBINED (math and English together) and DUAL (math and English separately) passing rates in the top 25th percentile in each grade level served.

BHS TOP 25 HONORED AT BANQUET
|
The Top 25 students in the Class of 2015 and their families attended the annual Top 25 Banquet at the BHS Senior Academy last week. Students were also joined by a teacher who had made a significant impact in their life. These students will join a class of 582 graduating seniors at Brownsburg High School's Commencement, Saturday June 6th at 10am at Roark Stadium.
At the Top 25 ceremony, BHS Athletics Office Manager and 37-year veteran teacher for BCSC, Peg Gordon, was named as the 2015 BHS Alumni award winner.

BHS SENIOR LEXI GREEN IS ACADEMIC ALL-STAR AND RECEIVES HONOR FROM NOTRE DAME
|
Each year the Indiana Association of School Principals recognizes 40 high school seniors in its list of Academic All-Stars. These students are selected based on many factors including GPA, SAT/ACT, leadership, community service, extra-curricular activities and letters of recommendation. Brownsburg senior
Lexi Green was named to this list of exceptional students. She was featured in a special publication in the Indianapolis Star (
CLICK HERE to view) and also honored at a reception in April. Lexi is the Class of 2015 Salutatorian and will be attending Notre Dame in the fall. She has also been accepted into the Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program at Notre Dame.

DECA STUDENTS REACH THE PODIUM AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
|
Brownsburg High School's DECA chapter participated in last month's International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, FL. For the first time in the history of the BHS DECA program, two Brownsburg students were recognized from the podium. Lasserina Dowell (left) and Hannah Linville (second from left) finished 2nd overall in the Community Service Project event. Over 18,000 students from around the world participated in this event. In addition, Chad Hale was a finalist (top 20) in the Quick-Serve Restaurant Marketing event. Fifteen BHS students attended this DECA event. CLICK HERE to view a video of the awards presentation. BEL CANTO/STARLIGHT LADIES ARE ISSMA STATE CHAMPIONS, BAND AND ORCHESTRAS RECEIVE GOLD

BHS Bel Canto/Starlight ladies choir named ISSMA State Champions Friday night! Madrigals placed third on Saturday. Congratulations to the BHS Choral Department!
The Brownsburg High School Bands and Orchestras participated in the Indiana State Music Festival contest last month. Two of the bands received gold and one silver, and both orchestras received gold. At the ISSMA State Qualifications, both the Wind Ensemble and the Full Orchestra received gold. Excellent!

BCSC TEACHERS AND STAFF OF THE YEAR HONORED
|
In a reception May 6th, BCSC honored Teachers and Support Staff Members of the Year in each school and department and announced this year's corporation Teacher and Support Staff Member of the Year. Jill Swango, Science and Social Studies teacher at Brownsburg East Middle School, was named BCSC Teacher of the Year. Travis Miller, Head Custodian at Brownsburg High School, was named Support Staff Member of the Year.
At Wednesday's ceremony, Teachers of the Year and Support Staff Members of the Year were also honored for each school and department.

All of our schools will be taking part in Relay for Life of Brownsburg for the American Cancer Society on the Town Hall Green, Saturday, May 16th. The event starts at 9:30am and continues for 24 hours with each school planning activities during one of the 24 hours.

JUGGLING MASTERS PERFORM AT PACER GAME

Juggling Masters - White Lick Elementary's before school club for grades 3-5 - was invited to perform during the pregame of last night's Pacer game. Fifth grade students who have participated in the program for all 3 years were part of an outstanding display of skill and discipline. Thank you to club sponsor Mr. Zach Kelley and all of the students and families for being great representatives of our schools!

DELAWARE TRAIL GIRLS LEAGUE PRESENTS CHECK
|
The Delaware Trail Girls' League is an after school club that inspires young girls to support one another to be inclusive of others in their school and beyond. The club sold water and popcorn at a recent school music program to raise money to sponsor seven underprivileged girls in India. This provides them the opportunity to go to school, a uniform, and supplies for a year through the organization Save the Girl. The Executive Director of Save the Girl, Dale Justis, attended this week's Girls' League meeting to accept the check. BHS freshman (and DT alumni) Julianne Fowler also joined the meeting to share one of her original songs that will benefit this group.

BWMS AND BEMS PE/HEALTH TEACHER CASSIE BROOKS RECEIVES LEADERSHIP AWARD

The President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition has selected Cassie Brooks of Brownsburg Community Schools to receive a 2015 PCFSN Community Leadership Award. The award is given annually to individuals or organizations who improve the lives of others within their community by providing or enhancing opportunities to engage in sports, physical activities, fitness or nutrition-related programs. Mrs. Brooks is the sponsor of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Club at West Middle School and has recently added a Walking Club.

BHS STUDENTS NAMED CARSON SCHOLARS
|
The Carson Scholars Fund awards scholarships to students who strive for academic excellence and demonstrate a strong commitment to their community. Congratulations to BHS junior Megan Berry, sophomore Alexander Harrison and senior Joel Klasa for being named Carson Scholars. Megan and Alexander are repeat winners and Joel has been a Carson Scholar for the past 5 years.

BHS students working at the 4th Annual John Crone Memorial Walk at the Avon YMCA last month. This was a student-led event that raised awareness about military PTSD as well as money for the organization Summit for Soldiers.

Medical Interventions students at BHS had the unique opportunity to observe a live kidney transplant surgery last month.

BROWN ELEMENTARY LIFE SKILLS MUSIC PROGRAM

FIRST ANNUAL TRAVEL EXPO AT BHS
|
Students in Mr. Arnold's Speech class recently hosted the first ever Travel Expo event for all of their parents. Parents were able to play the role of interested traveler and listen to all of the presentations. Students used their own technology to showcase their creativity. Over 400 parents, staff, and friends attended this fun and enriching event.
