Spreading Awareness in Hopes of a Cure

"Johnny and I were expecting to retire and enjoy ourselves. That's just not going to happen."
The Baumgartner Family -- Debbie, Will and John

FTD has stolen that future from John and Debbie Baumgartner, just as it has stolen John's ability to work and his interest in hobbies like hunting and wood working. But his love of golf has remained.

Earlier this year, Debbie and John, along with their son Will and several friends, organized the second annual John E. Baumgartner III Golf Tournament, raising thousands for FTD research and spreading awareness of her husband's disease.

More widespread awareness would have spared the Baumgartners years of frustration and heartbreak. Getting an accurate diagnosis was a multiyear process, in part because FTD remains unknown to many medical professionals. John was incorrectly prescribed medication to treat Alzheimer's and depression, and Debbie says she must continually educate doctors about the nature of FTD.

Progress toward a cure for FTD depends on awareness. That's why AFTD works so hard to educate the medical community and the public about this disease.

This holiday season, will you join Debbie Baumgartner in fostering FTD awareness by making a donation to AFTD?
