Spring 2014

NYPACE LEADERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENTS

Members of the NYPACE Board of Directors are extremely excited to welcome Jeff Smith as a new Board member. Jeff has been involved with NYPACE for more than 2 years and has played an integral role on the Marketing Committee, where he has been involved with sharpening the organization's presence on the web, developing a social media strategy and contributing to the organizations' media and public relations efforts. As Director of Communications at Warburg Pincus in New York with more than 10 years of professional communications experience, we welcome Jeff's broader involvement on the Board.

NYPACE would also like to welcome Aaron Gupta as the new Chair of the Entrepreneur Recruiting Committee.  Aaron has been involved with NYPACE for 4 years and has been dedicated to building a strong committee and securing great entrepreneurs for the program!  A shout-out to additional members who have recently joined our Leadership Committees:  William Zamlong (Marketing Committee), Andrew Woodman (PQT Committee) and Kevin Burke (Entrepreneur Recruiting Committee).  NYPACE is looking for additional leaders of the organization as we continue on our strong growth trajectory.  These leadership opportunities are described in the column to the right.  If you are interested, please contact info@nypace.org for more information.

WELCOME NEW ENTREPRENEURS AND ADVISORS
NYPACE is in the midst of a busy spring and getting ready for an even busier summer with new project launches, networking events and other exciting initiatives!  Since the beginning of the year, we have introduced six entrepreneurs to NYPACE for new projects, these businesses include JPR Builders, Dance Laugh Learn, Moetleh Designs, Fabulous Freddy's Beauty Supply Boutique, Parent Training Network, and Hollis Ave Community Center and welcomed 35 new Advisors.  NYPACE held our first volunteer advisor recruiting seminar, "Lunch & Learn with NYPACE" in March. This information session held at EY, a long-time sponsor of NYPACE, resulted in 25 additions to the NYPACE family who will soon join newly launched projects as Advisors!

Recent & Upcoming Events

On April 23rd NYPACE hosted a networking event to bring the entrepreneurs and advisors in our program together with our Board of Directors and those on our Leadership Committees.  This event was the first in an ongoing series of events to bring both NYPACE advisors and entrepreneurs together in an informal setting to share experiences, best practices and build our collective networks.  It was great to see so many of you there!

Upcoming events include a summer networking and fundraising event and our fall fundraising flagship event.  Stay tuned for details and be sure to mark your calendars!

SMALL BUSINESS FACT OF THE SEASON

A recent Yahoo Small Business Advisor article states, "Gone are the days when a mobile-enabled web presence was an afterthought. According to CNN, "Americans used smartphone and tablet apps more than PCs to access the Internet (in January 2014) - the first time that has ever happened."  Additional stats:  about half of all U.S. adults now own smartphones; that figure rises to 76% for millennials. Nearly half of consumers say they won't return to a website if it doesn't load properly on their mobile devices.  And three-quarters of B2B vendors say they plan to offer mobile commerce by the end of 2014."
