'Springing Ahead' At Full Speed:
4 Tips To Get Your Boathouse From Winter To Race Ready

Resolute sales reps from all over the country chime in on what works in their boathouses to ensure they can make every day count once spring training season is in full swing.

Jeff Sturges
President / Northeast

As Resolute's President, Jeff sees a number of last minute orders for multiple rudders and skegs this time of year. It's important to have multiple "just in case," but waiting till the last minute can sometimes be problematic for a crew in need. "In the northeast, you get such minimal water time that it's critical to minimize your down-time by maximizing your up-time. That means being prepared with all the rudders and skegs your crew might need in case one breaks or goes missing."

Casey Baker
Southeast

Casey likes to prioritize the launches before every race season. While his home state of Florida allows him to row year-round, there's still some regular pre-race season maintenance to keep in check.

PROPS - In salt water in particular, props tend to take a beating, so now is a good time to take out the launches and replace a chewed up prop with a backup one. Now you can refurbish the former one to have ready to go for next season.

SPARK PLUGS - Change 'em out. It's a cheap fix, but it really prevents time-draining problems in the long run.

WATER PUMP - Change it out. You can't afford to have a pump die on you mid-season.

Eric & Wendy Gillett
West Coast

Rowing out of Lake Casitas, California, Eric and Wendy have the luxury of freshwater year-round paddling, which equates to ongoing maintenance rather than a dedicated spring cleaning. They use this time of year to pull out the boats and fix anything cosmetic, especially on the hull. "Once the season starts, you can't pull a boat out of commission, so we use this time to make sure the boats look & perform like new and to ensure our launches are in fully functioning order, paying careful attention to the motors."

J.D. Bridges
Mid-Atlantic

JD's Pennsylvania team just got back on the water last week and he suggests getting everything down and figuring out what parts, spares, bolts, and screws you need to have on hand BEFORE the kids show up. (A lesson learned once the hard way...) It's a good idea to pre-empt mother nature so that when She's ready with that first day of golden weather, your team is ready and doesn't miss a beat.

As you do your spring cleaning, pay particular attention to:

* Ensuring the steering cables are nice & secure
* Removing grittiness from your wheels
* Checking that the Nuts & Bolts on your footboards are holding
* Wiping your tracks clean with a gentle soap & water mixture
* Ensuring your bow ball is secure & has no puncture spots
* Making sure the fin box is sealed and secure
* Checking for cracks & wounds to the exterior of your hull.
* See anything problematic? Our refurbishment gurus can make your boat look & perform like new -- and get you back on the water FAST
