Meet the instructor, Maureen McKenna
Maureen McKenna has been teaching art classes for over 10 years. Before relocating to Burgaw, Maureen worked at a private school in New York and taught children on the autism spectrum as an art, cooking, and equine program instructor. She was recently employed at the Lower Cape Fear YWCA as the art teacher and cooking instructor for their after school program where she worked with the students on life sized murals that were displayed at the Woman of Achievements events. Wanting more flexibility to enjoy life and her passions, art, and riding her horse, Maureen decided to become a freelance painting instructor. She is currently teaching Simple Strokes painting classes at River Landing and to seniors at the Heritage Center in Burgaw. She also works at the Laurels Skilled Nursing Facility teaching craft classes. Maureen gives classes called Paint & Palate at local restaurants in the Wilmington area, and holds at home paint parties. Also a member of the ArtBeat Community Arts Center in Burgaw, Maureen helped paint the recent mural that is located across the street from the courthouse. Maureen tries to live her life to the fullest, and enjoys helping people discover their hidden talents, through art!
