Spring is around the corner in Michigan, get your summer hats out and join us April 30 for our Spring Fling! Celebrate the warmer weather with us with a mint julep and dress like you're off to the races.

Last week I had the pleasure of working with the team on Career Day at the MDC. There were various activities throughout the day and I had a chance to talk with the Student Competition winner, Ms. Zimmerman from CCS. I find it invigorating to be around our emerging professionals and hope to see them more often at our functions.

Jeffrey Kolp and Rebecca Luckhardt are at work creating 2nd Tuesday Industry Happy Hour programs. We are always looking for more interaction within our membership, stay tuned.

We are reviewing the possibility of joining the Freedom House Detroit organization by helping them with improved office areas, a more hospitable dining area for their residents and possibly a fresh coat of paint. This non profit is in Detroit close to the bridge and is a home for people from around the world working on getting asylum from their native country where the majority of them have fled for the life. Should you have an interest in this project, email me and I can give you more details.

We are going to have a Directory again! Industry Partners are not the only ones that could benefit from advertising. You will be contacted by E& M Consulting firm. They are a great team of people that want to help us make our Directory a great tool again for our membership.

            See you soon!

Frida Frenzy
The exhibit, 'Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Detroit' is currently on display at the Detroit Institute of Arts and will be until July 12th of this year.  What a wonderful opportunity to view and learn about the work of two amazing artists and the time they lived in Detroit, while Rivera worked on his most famous commission, "Detroit Industry".  Though one may not agree with their artistic styles or political views -- so richly displayed in their paintings.  The vivid and colorful strokes of their work will do nothing, if not inspire a viewer.  Over 60 works are on display, predominately that of Rivera's; many working drawings to reveal insight to his process of painting the mural.  Though only 23 are of Kahlo's work, she clearly steals the show.  The city geared up for weeks to prepare for the opening -- social media was ablaze in anticipation: there is a pop-up store named for her, and even special menu offerings at several local restaurants.  One cannot deny her magnetism, it is still strong after more than 80 years.  I encourage everyone to indulge -- see the exhibit, taste the flavor of Mexico, or better yet both!
See below and visit www.dia.org for more info!

Sunday, March 15, 2015 - Sunday, July 12, 2015

Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo were an explosive couple. He carried a pistol. She carried a flask. He romanticized Detroit. She rejected it. But what they shared was a belief in communism, a thirst for tequila and a passion for each other. Discover how they left their mark on Detroit. And how Detroit left its mark on their art. Exclusively on view at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Detroit brings together nearly 70 works of art that depict the evolution of these two extraordinary artists' careers, including eight of Rivera's epic preparatory drawings for the Detroit Industry murals and 23 pieces by Kahlo, whose work has never before been shown at the DIA. Photography is not permitted in the special exhibition galleries.

Spring is in the air, or at least it's trying to be, which means that our 2015 Spring Fling is just around the corner! It will be held on Thursday, April 30th and I look forward to seeing all of you there. Stay tuned for all of the event details.

I would like to thank Ferguson Kitchen, Bath & Lighting Gallery for hosting a Designer Night and allowing us to hold our March board meeting in their offices. Ferguson's Designer Night was a blast and it was great to see familiar faces and make new friends. I was personally impressed with the eclectic mix of unique lighting and plumbing fixtures. The staff was extremely friendly and I look forward to more events at their showroom and to working with them in the future!
