March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

According to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, colorectal cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the United States and the second leading cause of death from cancer. Colorectal cancer affects all racial and ethnic groups and is most common in those ages 50+.

The best way to prevent colorectal cancer is to get regular screenings beginning at age 50. There are often no signs or symptoms of colorectal cancer - so screenings are vital to early detection.
Healthy lifestyle choices can help reduce your risk of colorectal cancer. In addition, it is recommended that you:
  • Get screened starting at age 50.
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
  • Get plenty of physical activity and eat healthy.

Where Are You With Your Resolutions?

Remember oh so long ago on January 1st when you set a number of resolutions for yourself for the New Year? Well here it is, the beginning of March-the perfect time to re-visit whether or not your resolutions are working for or against you. Why did I phrase it like that? Because if your goal was to work out more or lose weight, and you've yet to do either 2 months into the New Year, then something isn't working.  Maybe you started out with determination and resolve but after a few weeks lost your motivation. Or maybe you gave up after just one or two half-hearted attempts to make it to the gym. Spring is a time for new growth in nature, so use that as a motivator for your own personal growth. Read our blog for more tips on re-committing to your resolutions!
