MOSSY CREEK SPRING KICK OFF OPEN HOUSE FEATURING TOM ROSENBAUER 

We are excited to announce that Tom Rosenbauer, the Fly Rod and Reel 2011 Fly Angler of the Year, will be our special guest at our Spring Kickoff Event this year. 

 

Tom Rosenbauer, host of the Orvis Fly Fishing Podcasts, has been with the Orvis Company over 30 years, and while there has been a fishing school instructor, copywriter, public relations director, merchandise manager, and was editor of The Orvis News for 10 years. He is currently Marketing Director for Orvis Rod and Tackle. As merchandise manager, web merchandiser, and catalog director, the titles under his direction have won numerous Gold Medals in the Annual Catalog Age Awards. Tom has been a fly fisher for over 35 years, and was a commercial fly tier by age 14. He has fished extensively across North America and has also fished on Christmas Island, the Bahamas, in Kamchatka, and on the fabled English chalk streams. He is credited with bringing Bead-Head flies to North America, and is the inventor of the Big Eye hook, Magnetic Net Retriever, and tungsten beads for fly tying .He has ten fly fishing books in print, including The Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide, Reading Trout Streams,Prospecting for Trout, Casting Illusions, Fly-Fishing in America, Approach and Presentation, Trout Foods and Their Imitations; Nymphing Techniques; Leaders, Knots, and Tippets, The Orvis Guide to Dry-Fly Techniques, and The Orvis Fly-Tying Guide, which won a 2001 National Outdoor Book Award. He has also been published in Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, Catalog Age, Fly Fisherman, Gray's Sporting Journal, Sporting Classics, Fly Rod & Reel, Audubon, and others. He lives in southern Vermont on the banks of his favorite trout stream.

Tom is Fly Rod & Reel magazine's 2011 Angler of the Year! To quote the magazine: "People who meet him know this: Rosenbauer is as valid a fly fisherman as they come - honest, approachable, generous, dedicated, and enthusiastic. Dusty Wissmath

DUSTY WISSMATH

 will be on hand Saturday and Sunday giving a wonderful presentation on fly fishing the greater Yellowstone National Park area as well as helping out with casting demos.

 

Dusty grew up in Missouri, started fly fishing at age eight, and spent his formative years highly distracted by the sport.  He began guiding and teaching fly-fishing in the

early seventies while working on a degree in Wildlife Biology at the University of Wyoming.  Living in Jackson, WY after graduate school he tied commercially for High Country Flies and guided on the Snake, Green and New Fork Rivers and in Yellowstone National Park. 

After working as a Biologist in Wyoming and East Africa, Dusty started his fly-fishing school and guide service in 1995.  He also served as the lead instructor at the L.L. Bean Fly Fishing School in Virginia and still teaches at the Wulff School of Fly Fishing in New York.  He is a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor and is a member of the Board of Governors of the F.F.F. Guides Association.   When he's not teaching or guiding, Dusty gives casting demonstrations and workshops at sports shows from Montana to Virginia.  His articles and photographs can be found in several outdoor magazines.

Tom Sadler- has been a professional guide and instructor for 15 years, is a dedicated tenkara fly fisherman and our exclusive tenkara guide and instructor. Tom's passion for tenkara was honed in Virginia's mountain streams where he chases native brook trout. His reputation as a tenkara devote makes him sought after as a guide and speaker. He is also on the board of AFFTA and helps with national conservation efforts as well as keeps up with the latest and greatest information in the industry. Tom will be on hand Saturday and Sunday giving Tenkara Presentations and casting lessons. Stop by and try Tenkara for your first time. SPRING OPEN HOUSE 2012
Raffle, Sales, Food, Casting, and More!
We will hold another raffle full of exciting prizes and Mossy Creek gear at this years open house. We will have sale specials on many items in the shop including rods, reels, lines, accessories, luggage, and packs. Carter will be on hand providing his famous pork BBQ and chicken with fresh made sides. We will have a casting area in the parking lot out front, scheduled presentations in the 2,000 sq foot room next door. We will also have the best fly fishing guides in VA on hand all weekend to answer questions and give away their secret spots. Tell your friends and mark your calendars for our most exciting weekend at the shop! We will post our Open House schedule of events and raffle prizes in a few weeks. We look forward to seeing you!
