Spring 2017

Heidrea for Heroes had a busy and rewarding spring serving veterans from throughout the region. Please read on for our latest happenings, recent veteran project highlights, and an important announcement that will have us reaching new heights!

Event Highlight
On June 1st, H4H teamed up with the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce to host VET-WORK, a great event that connected job-seeking veterans and military spouses with local and regional employers who value the skills that veterans bring to the workforce.  Held at Tavern on the Wharf in Plymouth, the room was buzzing with conversation between these two groups and the feedback has been very positive!  As we continue to build upon our workforce readiness focus, we look forward to more networking events like this.

Project Highlights
We continue to receive an ever-growing number of applications from veterans and widows who need a helping hand. Take a look at just a couple of examples where we were happy to help.

Geraldine's roof was leaking around the chimney, vent pipe and satellite dish. We partnered with REI in Braintree, and they volunteered their time and professional skill to fix her roof as their way of honoring her husband's service to our nation during the Vietnam War. Many thanks to REI from all of us!

We were pleased to help Vincent, a Navy Veteran, with a computer for college, as he takes  steps to go back to school to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a mechanical engineer.

H4H awarded our Veteran Legacy Scholarships to 3 outstanding graduating seniors in May, each of whom received $500 toward their college expenses:

  • Allyson Andrade from Taunton, attending UMASS Dartmouth
  • Rebecca Bray from Raynham, attending Florida Southern College
  • Hailey Medeiros from Lakeville, attending Northeastern University
We thank their veteran parents for their service and wish all of them the best of luck as they start college!

2nd Annual Skydive Challenge

H4H is taking the leap again this year with our Skydive Challenge! This thrilling fundraiser puts our skydivers into competition to see who can raise the most before tandem parachuting with the experts at Skydive South Boston on Sept. 9th at Cranland Airport in Hanson !

And now we're recruiting skydivers to join the team - will you jump at the chance?!

New Benefit Launch
Earlier this month, H4H was thrilled to receive a grant from the Veteran Support Foundation to launch our new benefit program,  Childcare Relief for Veteran Student Success

For the 2017-2018 academic year, veterans who are enrolled in a college degree program and have pre-school age children (or younger) who require daycare in order for them to attend classes and meet their coursework obligations. Can apply to H4H for relief funds to offset some of those childcare expenses.

An application is required, and this is a limited opportunity.  We are excited about this new offer and hope it lifts a burden for those who need it most! For more information, contact  info@heidrea4heroes.org or 774-773-3951.
