Briarlake STEM Updates
Meeting with Ranger Robby

Briarlake teachers, administrators, and the Briarlake PTA met with Robby Astrove, DeKalb County Parks and Rec Park Ranger (center), and with Jessie Hayden, Briarlake Forest Representative, to explore ways to build the relationship between Briarlake Elementary and Briarlake Forest. The relationship between the forest and the school aligns with Briarlake's STEM focus of biodiversity in our community. Great ideas were generated and parents should see more information about this relationship in the near future!

Coding Club

The Briarlake Coding Club page is now up in Briarlake PTA site.  You can access the page through the Briarlake PTA web site > About Us > Extra-Curricular.

Thanks to parents Liberty Garcia and Richard Wright for coordinating the Briarlake Coding Club!

Also, Ms Sery, Ms Moehlich and Ms Spencer attended a workshop recently and are already brainstorming ways to embed coding into their lessons sometime in the future!

Henderson Middle School Foundation Annual Campaign, March 6 - 24 - please help your future school
Donate Today
Help your child's future school by making a donation to the HMS Foundation! The foundation's goal is to provide educational resources to the school, to enrich the school's academic and cultural offerings. Because of the foundation, HMS has been working towards becoming a STEM school -  and we are making progress toward that goal! This year, HMS has one STEM team in 7th and 8th grades, and they have been a great success. More teams will be added in the future.
But it's not just about STEM. You probably know that HMS is undergoing renovations and is getting a new wing. The money raised this year can also be used to help purchase equipment or supplies that might be needed for the new wing.
This means that donations made today will go to programs that directly impact your rising elementary student. Your participation will help ensure the HMS Foundation can continue supporting the school. Remember - a strong school makes for a strong neighborhood.
How to donate: Please visit the website    to make a donation online or for information how to donate by check.  If you have questions, please email

DeKalb School of the Arts Presents Broadway's smash hit musical"Memphis!"

Winner of four Tony Awards® including Best Musical,
Best Score, Best Book and Best Orchestrations .
"Memphis" takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50s, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun falls in love with everything he shouldn't: rock and roll and an electrifying black singer Felicia Farrell. "Memphis" is an original story about the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever.
